I am running into this as a result of the Beta, but it's not really Beta related.

First, let me get something outta the way-
I've had Horizons, but never really took the time to land and look for stuff. I know how to land and all, but the dumb engineer is making me want to launch an orbital strike and blow her up...
IF I KNEW WHERE TO FIND HER!!

I'm trying to find this Farsight (?) engineer on Decium 6A (?), i see all kinds of other CMDR's dropping in and landing or something, but I never see the POI from orbital. Then I all of a sudden get too close and it drops me 87KM from the surface. In orbital I dont exceed a 30 degree slope, speed's in he blue.. but it drops me when I get to the 'drop' marker.

Am i supposed to fly all the way down to 2km above the surface?
Do I stay in orbital?
Why do I never hit glide?
Do I land at some random spot and fly in slow mode till I find her?
So confused...

I've looked at YT for a tutorial... Obsidian, you did a great job, but I just dont get it..

Running out of beer and patience.

Any help?

These are not POI's. They are actually ground stations, listed in the navigation listings. Look carefully in all the system landing sites in the navigation panel...there is one called Farsight(?)..it has what looks like a nut (screw and nut...not hazel and nut)..and you can lock onto it just like any other base. (Note: You can see what planet they are on by looking at the system map for a purple nut...yeah, I know)

Once you do...you just fly towards it as you would any other land base.

If you know how to land at a land base your golden at that point!

Landing is no problem when I can see where i need to go.
But I dont see a target in my Nav Section.

I even have her dumb fish..

I'll re-log and try again.

I really wish I could blow up her planet...

*gasp* Where did you find the fish?

The wonderful commodities illustrations ont he galaxy map LIE! There ar eno fish anywhere that ha the lines flying out of them indicating exports...

And yes, Farseer Inc is the name of the base - it's on the same list as the planets and bases - just keeping scrollign down, it's near the bottom of the list.

Finch market in Xinca! One jump out from Deciat! <Fairly common in most agricultural economies...and no one trades fish...thus few import export routes>

I do have access to the beta, flying a DEEPLY discounted Cutter... Im in the right place to be sure.
And I enabled every filter in my Nav panel.

I may just have a broken module or something. In addition, It doesnt appear that I have an SRV either. I couldnt find one at the station I was at.

So I will go to the nearest Hi Tech and refit.

Never had a reason to go planetside berfore even though I would dabble here and there; but I've never had a problem until now.

So far I am digging the Beta, just not this little snafu. Which may be user error, its always the smallest detail one overlooks.

You get an invite and an icon on the galaxy and system map, it couldn't be more straight forward. This is on horizons beta 2.1. You need to have met a certain criteria for an invite.

It almost sounds like the game does not allow you to go down on planets, for which there could be 2 reasons: You are in 1.6 Beta and not 2.1, or alternative you have no Plantary approach suite installed.

If you are in 2.1 beta and you have the Planetary approach suite then that has to be a case for FD Support, because then something ain't right.

Check the bottom left hand corner of your screen, it tells you what beta version you are playing.

I appreciate all the replies...

To be sure, I'm in the 2.1 beta, I got all the email invites....
I have her stinky fish....
My approach module is installed....
My nav filter is wide open....
I think something may be bugged, which is a first for me.

When i get home I'll try again.

Man, this fish is getting stinky.

The only other thing I can suggest is that you ask in local for someone to wing with you and lead you down.. maybe that way you can finally find if it's a bug or something else :)

maybe you are driving too fast when going into orbital, and you can select her base in system map then go into planet surface, if you can't select it in your menu

Hm, today I did that Fish Delivery (from next-door Agricultural System) for exactly that lady, selected her Base location from the System Map and was able to approach and land without any issues (?)

Hints for approaching Planets :
- take something like a 25-35deg dive angle and don't keep the Throttle in the Blue zone all the time. 50% Throttle setting is a safe bet ; this results in min. ~7 sec ETA while passing the OC area
(around the Orbital Cruise area, the Ship will otherwise tend to accelerate beyond slowdown limits)

- Glide is entered around ~25km Altitude, provided Pitch angle is >5 deg and <60 deg , AND approach speed doesn't exceed the maximum
(without a locked Target, all you basically have is the Audio feedback of the SC Engine... 50% Throttle isn't the fastest possible, but pretty failsafe even for steep approach angles)

Alternatively, level-off around 30km and let speed stabilize to a failsafe regime, then continue descent. At this low altitude, one can normally go max. Throttle during the descent without exceeding the Glide limits.

OK, the mystery is over.

See what happened was....

I flew by the nearest space beer store to pick up some special treats. Later that night after logging back in, I must have logged into the 1.6 version without noticing. Hence the troubles I had trying to land or even find that crazy fish woman.
so yeah, to the CMDR's who said I was in the wrong mode, you were right.
I was wrong.

Let this be a lesson to my fellow space drinkers; pay attention to what you do. Now I have a HUGE scratch on this leased Cutter and I have no idea how it got there. There goes my deposit.

It's also DB's fault. If he woulda included multi crewed ships, my copilot would have noticed my error and set me straight.
