I got "lucky"...

So, I got "lucky" and won the Newegg shuffle. I bought an RTX 3080 Gigabyte Gaming OC for $999 and what a beast, caps off my build nicely. Finished up the build last night and fired up some games. WOW! I'm running 3440x1440p wide screen 144hz monitor and every game I tried is running awesome on full resolution and Ultra setting.

With my GTX 1080 I had to down scale the resolution to 2560×1080 and most settings to medium or low... The result was not enjoyable and looked like crap, but at least I could play at reasonable FPS.

So I opened Odyssey and set my resolution to 3440x1440p, got rid of any upscaling, set full Ultra and I must say the game runs so nice. Stations are around 80-90 fps and smooth. Even dog fighting was much nicer, smoother. I have the max frame rate set 143 fps so for much of the game it runs at the cap. Planet side on foot is still a $h1+ show, but it plays reasonably smoothly and even better, I can actually see things now.

Anyway, I might actually play the game now. It looks great and plays smoothly, so nice to be back into the cockpit again! Feels like old times!

I'll post a pic of my machine when I finish tiding up the wiring.

I needed to replace my old gamer PC and started looking at component prices. Yikes! So I wimped out and bought a new mid-range Alienware gaming rig (see sig below).

I have a 34" monitor, but it's a few years old and tops out at 100 Hz. I actually limit it to 90 Hz though, as the fans on the new Radeon are quite noisy. I'm thinking of a water cooled setup for the graphic card now. ;)

Gorgeous!!! Well done!

Mine looks like someone got it halfway finished and decided they'd rather play games than make it look good. Extremely functional, but ugly.

Thanks, I would have liked to do custom cables, but it is a gaming machine and while I want it to look good, I don't have the time to do it myself or the desire to pay someone else. The extensions were reasonably priced.
