I got one, I GOT ONE!

New toy

I've made a move from plying the market and trying my luck with bulk freight, to doing long distance deliveries for mucho moneys. I stacked two deliveries yesterday and made 3.4 mil :).

The AspEx is all well and good for this, but I can't turn it into a combination cargo ship and brawler, and the same goes for the Type 9 which has lovely huge holds but is so ungainly that it's an ordeal to fly. Having heard a lot of good things about the Python, I figured I'd give it a go, and so I snapped one up :).

Flying it, it feels like the Vulture's bigger brother. With a large weapon mount over each shoulder, I'm right at home. The big gun in the nose and a couple of mediums just add to the fun.

I'm surprised at how maneuverable the ship is, I figured it'd be large and ungainly just like the type 9, though when you've got the throttle in the blue, it's surprisingly nimble.

I outfitted it with a jack-of-all-trades build; a pair of large multicannon (G), a pair of medium beam lasers (T) and a seeker missile launcher in the nose.
To my joy, some stupid in a DBX (master) interdicted me and I submitted, to see how the python could handle itself.
And, well... Good and bad. Good was down to the ship, bad was down to me.

The shields stand up surprisingly well to abuse and the ship itself is pretty nimble in combat too. The downside came to my choice of weapons loadout. The turreted medium beams were fairly effective at knocking his shields down, but the multicannons were effectively useless until they were down. The missile launcher did what it's supposed to do, but because I was only launching a single missile at a time, it was easy for my foe to swat it out of the sky with his point defense system.
I smashed the DBX into space dust, but not before a combination of bad loadout and unfamiliarity with the ship (and probably him being a Master) got my hull down to 52%, which in a DBX-vs-Python fight should just not happen :p.

So I'm off to Gidzenko Ring in Chamunda to refit my ship, I'm wondering what types of weapons to get, I'm tempted to go with large thermals and medium ballistics.

So yay, python!

Great days Cmdr. Best looking ship in game. Yes what he said above me. Make sure you have adequate insurance. :)

Flimley

I use 2 medium beams and 3 large multi cannons, and my python itself as a battering ram.

It looks like a battle axe, I fly it like a battle axe, and finished in the top 10% of the Parun Bounty Hunting CG with it.

Of course, mine's been Engineered so much even the Engineers are confused by it, but whatever works, right? I get a nice 22.something Ly jump laden, 24.something empty.

I also keep a few spare modules in storage for quick refitting, as it makes a mother of a mining ship as well as rugged combatant, armored cargo transport, and all around all-round ship.

The python does nothing wonderfully, except being wonderful at doing everything perfectly well.

Two medium beams and 3 large multicannons is what I have on mine. Gimballed to make up for my lack of skill combined with the handling. When I get it engineered properly I'll give fixed a go. The beams eat shields pretty quickly and the multis do the same to hulls.

Congrats on your purchase.

Well done!

Remember, she's a coffin when stock. Lol

However, a few money saving tips...

Don't worry about he 7A powerplant. Use a 6A and spam a load of level 1 mods for it.
I ended up with 31.2mw of power, with no downsides. Lol
You'll save 50,000,000cr and 2.5mil on your rebuy, plus a load of mass, and heat generation.

If you get dirty drives 5, ditch the military armour.
You have enough speed to escape any PvE encounter alive if your shields drop.
You'll save another 50,000,000cr and 2.5mil on your rebuy.
The armour won't ever pay for itself, unless you repeatedly get knocked down below 50%~ hull, with armour. (At which point you would have died without it).
Plus, the Pythons agility is insane with dd5. Lol

I use 3 large pulses, and 2 medium seeker racks on mine. It means I can keep the pressure on, even if they fire off a chaff. Unless they have PD. Lol

Here's my general PvE "do whatever" setup.
Multirole PvE Python

You can mix up the internals as needed.

The Python is a great ship. My Engineered Python has 3x Large Efficient 5 pulse lasers plus 2x Imperial Hammers. The Hammers run hot, but pack a nice punch, just as an alternative to multicannons.

Set a button command for 50 percent throttle to instantly get to maximum maneuverability. Comes in handy avoiding suns and dogfights. Moving the throttle aborts this setting. Note that this work for all ships!

Unless you actually want to do wet work I'd ditch the weapons and concentrate on speed and jump range.

I'm fed up with running from interdictions. Time to nail the sods to the wall!
I now have 3x class 3 Burst Lasers, and 2x Class 2 Multicannon.

3 class 3 burst lasers = a lot of heat, but my fit runs very cool, idling at 31%

Yeah, i got my Python blown up 3 times in a row because of stupidity and not knowing the differences how the game is now compared to a year back...

I then put everything solely to upgrade all engineers to grade 5 and kitted out the Python with all they have to offer.
Now i have a large overcharged gimballed pulse laser with phasing sequence mod in the nose, 2 large efficient gimballed MC's besides it, one with corrosive shells and one with incendiary rounds. The two mediums are both turreted beam lasers, one with thermal conduit and one with thermal shock update...
This layout shreds almost anything to pieces up to the size of a Python. Only Elite conda's are more of a challenge but that's mainly because i am not that great a pilot, and the Python still has an all-round layout...
