I had a dream... Elite Dangerous Private servers and mods.

The other night I had a dream that I played elite on a private server, I could target a star 800 LY away and fly straight to it, I saw the LY ticking down while I was travel in some kind of hyperspace tunnel, so it took a while and I saw some kind of progress bar, in the middle of the screen simular to the fuelscoop, instead of heat, it was fuel going down and the bar under was the progress and far I had traveled and a timer below it when to arrive. I don't remember much, but my I knew that it was a private server I was playing on, created by some Elite dangerous community players. After I woke up, then I spent half an hour laying in the bed thinking of all the cool stuff and how much we can improve the game, to create a more pleasant and more fun experience, for everyone.

Wouldn't it be cool if we had the option to host our own servers, like a group of people joins up and create their own, players who has been there since alpha/beta or other veterans, know what this game needs, and all these people teams up and let the ideas flow. Think of all the possibilities we could have, giving us the ability to actually create the game the community wants.

Not talking about some people who are just angry they lost their ship, or people who are disappointed in Engineers because they don't have the will to get things done, or people who complain about the NPCs that they were too hard, and need to be nerfed and so on, talking about true Elite dangerous veterans now, how these people understand the game and what it needs.

I just wanted to share my thoughts with you people, and I for one, think this would be awesome, then Frontier can sit in their bubble creating a game which they think is best way, but sorry to say, their sense of balance and actual fun gameplay isn't good, if they actually played the game themselves, it would be different, but I can't imagine that they do, they can't.

Inb4 "you want to automate flying!" "you want to reduce the galaxy size!" "this isn't the game for you!" and similar comments, by our lovely community :p

<Ahem>
Don't you dare utter the "FUN" word. Also "PLEASANT" is right out.

Pray that FDev goes down, they promised that they will release the server code before turning off the actual servers. Though that was only promise, not a guarantee, so...

understand the game and what it needs.

Now we're approaching a subjective grey area...

That's the effect of playing with dev account and having free access to everything and a magical possiblity to "skip the grind" via a server side handwavium ;-) Were Sammarco forced to play the game as we do to earn his living, many many design decisions would be WAY different. But oh well.

Play while you can! When global anarchy hits, and the internet is destroyed, then you'll be seriously regretting no private Elite servers. Then, we will all see just how horrible the apocalypse can be.

Someone will have to lead a strike team into FD headquarters and appropriate code. Then we'll have to organize to distribute it worldwide.

Operation: Steal the Elite Dangerous plans from the Frontierial Empire - because David Braben would have foreseen the apocalypse and would now be Emperor of the world.

Help us Obi-Chris Robertsonobi, you're our only hope! (Naturally Chris Roberts would have had to alter his name as he would be on Emperor Braben's Jedi hitlist. Also the small matter of evading lawers for never delivering on a certain product before the world ended) :)

Would love to have a private server where we could have admins with god-like powers. I have a few buddies that would love to start up an RP server where we could enforce engagement rules via admin action. I know a good chunk of people that haven't bought ED and would jump on it if this private servers with mods became available. Just think of the kind of platform ED is for a rich mod makeover to fit other fictional universes.

One day...maybe
