I have $60M to invest into a new combat ship, suggestions?

With the changes in 2.1 I'm looking into a new combat ship. I don't think my python is going to cut it anymore so I'm considering using it as an armed trader instead. What's the best bang for my $60M, and why? I've only owned the Cobra and Python for combat, nothing in between for fighting.
Thanks!

There is the Vulture for 25-30M fully fitted or the Federal Assault Ship for maybe 80M to choose. So the Vulture will be the best bang for your buck. I would even say its a "must-fly".

Thanks, I guess I could start with the vulture and save up for the FAS..... any practical downsides to the vulture? Can I get around the bubble in it?

Pick up a Vulture and max fit it for cheap, then go and learn the Engineer ropes while fishing it out. You'll have enough money left over that you'll never worry about insurance rebuy if you make mistakes and the Vulture is pretty much the defacto Combat Ship For Dummies.

A fished out Vulture is the right hand of God. Use it to earn bounties to pay for whatever combat ship you want to try next.

60 Mil is a considerable amount but, with the available choices, the Vulture at around the 20 mil mark is likely the best option. The FAS, FdL, and even the other two Fed ships will kit out at much more than that. Having re-buys surly will be of benefit. The Vulture will make you ooddles of Credits, and it won't be long at all, before you can afford to pimp out a more expensive model.

20-23 mil vulture and never look back until you have about 80 mil.

Then, rank up if you haven't already and get an FAS for about 60-65 mil.

It doesn't have super-long jump range, but it's not terrible. You'll need either a spare fuel tank or a scoop for longer journeys as its standard tank is fairly small.

The Vulture never quite has enough power for everything you want, so make sure you A-rate the power plant, and then juggle the rest to suit your flying style - and you will need to use module management. Pulse lasers work well, as you can fire them practically forever with 4 pips to weapons, though the new Large multicannons might also be worth a look. It's also one of the few ships that can still keep up with the most agile NPCs post-2.1.

It's very much a shield-tanker - the shield can take a lot of punishment, but the hull isn't particularly strong. You could add some armour, but it's not really worth it as the first thing to go once your shields are down is almost always the canopy.

downers: jump range, power plant, firepower compared to python; uppers: shield strength, special ability; extrem manuverability, especially compared to python.
For the downers engineering can remove them.

This ^^

Then save up for an FDL.

Thanks All, Vulture it is. If/when I decide to scale up, I'll have to check out the FAS vs FDL posts, I'm already seeing some of that here hehe.

Good choice!
I stuck with the Vulture for ages(in v1.4). Then switched up to an FDL(v1.5/2.0).

FYI, you need around 120,000,000cr for a decent FDL. That includes military armour.
But not overpriced class 4 weapons. Lol
My rebuy is about 6-7mil.

FDL if you are trading in your Python, Vulture if you are not, 60M is not enough to pay for ship+A rated modules, not even to buy a FAS, certain modules can cost you a lot of money

Keep going until you have 500 Million...then the Anaconda comes into its own! :)

Short of that....a Vulture seems to be in your future!

An FAS with combat ready basic internals, and nothing else, comes in at just below 78 mil Credits. A 60 mil FAS won't be very effective.

I've bought an FAS in a Yi-Long Rui system a few times. 15% discount on the ship and internals can make 60mill go a long way.
