I have a complaint...

Recently I was at a star port, looking at the missions/bulletin board. I saw a mission in the ‘requirements not met’ section that looked intriguing (that is, it payed quite a sum compaired to many other missions I have took on) and was not above my current explorer ranking (it was a planetary scan job).

All I needed was a cordial rating with the faction in order to have access to it and I was was at neutral, so it didn’t take long to get there.

I went back to that star port after I was promoted to cordial and checked the missions board, but the mission I wanted wasn’t there. I reloaded the page to make sure...not there. Might I add this was the available missions tab I was checking since I was promoted to cordial so it should have been available there, but it wasn’t.

And this isn’t the first time this has happened to me, in fact I’ve try this many times but to no prevail. So I wonder/complain: what’s the point of working for a star port specifically to unlock a mission so you may profit from it, just to end up not being able to find that mission (at that star port) in the first place?!

Of course I could just not be doing something right, which is marking this happen. So if anyone knows what’s going on, or knows if this is just part of the game (hopefully not), please respond.

The mission board does not retain missions indefinitely. If you leave the port and return, the missions will have changed.

Look at it this way, the missions are there to be taken by anyone who comes in looking for cargo. If you leave, you run the risk of someone taking the mission in your absence.

Further, you had to reach the alliance level before you could take that mission, so time went by, the server refreshes the board who knows how many times before you got back.

Nothing you described is out of line, working as it's intended.

Someone else took the mission while you were away :)

I know that's not how the game works, but if it was real life and there was a lucarative mission sitting there, well someone else would take it before you got back for sure so you can RP it like that.

Wouldn’t be a bad idea to find a system you like, and make it ‘home’.

Build up your rep in one place and you should have access to some decent missions in a reasonable amount of time.
Indeed
Pick a home and ally yourself with all factions if you can.
Some faction or so will always be in a boom. Big ticket missions all the time.
Find another close big station nearby. Rinse and repeat.
Plus. Being allied with all empire, alliance, or federation system factions. Gain you rank in their military as a side bonus.

Another advantage of getting friendly with a home station/faction is that when you get allied status and they show green you'll get extra leeway on friendly fire.

When one snoozes, one loses. Just go and shoot some of that faction's ships up a bit, it'll make you feel better at least.

Great, with that in mind, now I have an urge to kill everything I see at the next nav beacon.

Another issue with this is the following scenario...

1. See awesome looking mission for controlling faction marked cordial...
2. No problem! Sells 2m exploration data to controlling faction to become cordial...
3. Same mission now requires friendly...
4. Fuuuuu.... 😤😤

Over the last year or two, I've advocated that mission boards shouldn't offer missions you can't accept (e.g due to rep/other conditions)... though that's in combination with a bunch of other suggestions so it might not seem the best idea on the surface.

Maybe not go quite that far. Don't offer you ones there's no chance of being able to accept (say ones that require being allied when you're just cordial) but I've had times where I've thought "I like the look of that mission and I can do it if I temporarily swap out some modules for a bit of extra cargo space."

That's why I mention "in combination with a bunch of other suggestions, so it might not seem the best idea on the surface" :)

FD put the "Cargo Depot" in for wing missions, and on a "trial" with non-wing source/delivery missions, with the intent to deploy it further all going well.

As far as I can tell, it's been successful... so now they need to employ it for every mission requiring cargo to be delivered (whether it's donation, salvage, hijack, mining[1] or any others I've forgotten about)

[1] Because it's been too long that, while in my 16-tonne-cargo Asp explorer, I can't accept a mining mission for 30t of some commodity, but I can happily accept a wing minintg mission for 200t...
