Newcomer / Intro I have a noob question about Factions

I just recently picked up a vulture and found myself in systems that are "Independent"

They interest me!! since the fact I do not like following big corrupt greedy factions like the Empire or Federation.

I have been making an influence but all the systems that are Independent have no system info available?

Is there a reason for this? even the system I am currently at has no system info.

When I was trading, I admit, I did some imperial slave trading. Did that affect me?

I am new to the whole political aspect of this game.

Most systems have nothing the system info as there are a lot of systems and it has to be hand written, there is nothing special about those systems (yet).

Imperial slave trading probably affected your bank balance, there is no real set of ethics other than that you enforce on yourself, commodities are either legal or illegal.

You gather influence from factions you sell your trading goods to. So if you pick up a 100T of tea or 100T of slaves it makes no difference. You will get an increase to rep to whatever faction the starport is aligned to where you sell your goods. So if you want to level up a specific independent faction, then sell to that independant starport.

However as slaves are illegal in most federation space you can lose rep to federation if a police ship scans you, finds your slaves and fines you. That's about the only downside to slave trading.

Also, be prepared for a boost in gameplay to factions/rep building. Powerplay update in May will change all that you have already learned... and hopefully adds some more depth.

Allow me to wax poetic about govornments.

You need to start with the fundamental idea that all, and I do mean all, human systems of government have powerful taking from the powerless. It's just human nature. So saying you prefer one faction or dislike another is just saying: I find their particular politics more (or less) to my tastes.

Personally I lean towards small government (that does not mean weak in a military sense) that allow it's citizenry freedom to rise or fall according to the decisions they make in life. Here is a direct quote about the Empire: "In the Empire very little is illegal..."

That's my kind of government. Is it a dictatorship or republic? Don't care. Just don't try to micromanage my life, be my surrogate parents or "encourage" a certain lifestyle by threat of imprisonment.

But hey. It's a video game.....if you don't want to pick a side and get involved, that's you're choice. It's your money to spend how you want, but you're short changing yourself IMO.

LOL thanks reaver I will keep that in mind.

This system I am at that is Independent has 6 RES sites and is BUSY!. not sure why it would have no system info. It also has a small port.
