I have a question about Palin and his silly demand you go 5k light years from your starting point.

No, colour doesn't bother me at all. But be realistic. What do you do when you hit a new unexplored system?

You point your ship at planet and wait for a text field to change. You land on a planet. Cool. What do you do on the planet? Nothing.

I need objective and exploration doesn't offer me that.

You missed my post.
I couldn't care less whether you come back or self destruct, but as time is an issue for you, use a long range ship like a cheap DBX

Honestly if you are role playing and just have a cobra, why care about g palin its not that grade 5 dd is going to make much of a difference against NPC vs a grade 3. And your cobra will get destroyed in PvP regardless. So what is the attraction for palin again?

I need objective

I know this is off topic, but your question has already been answered so I hope you wont mind me asking because I'm honestly curious - what do you mean by this? Do you mean a mission? You want the game to give you a mission?

What do you do on the planet? Nothing.

For me, the answer is that I imagine myself in a far away place that no human has ever visited. I'm not sure how to describe the feeling - "stirring" maybe? I could just as easily say what you just said about any aspect of any game. "What do you do when you blow up an NPC? Nothing."

If I want grade 5 thrusters, and I'm willing to do the minimum work requirement for them, then I'm going to get them. I do not need a reason.

In the process of fighting in a conflict zone, or hunting a pirate, or trade ship... Whatever, I'm actively engaged with the controls on my ship. Exploration, on the other hand, can be done with next to no effort.

Objective? Yeah, a mission would be nice. Would be nice to get contracted to find something specific. Like a water world a specific distance from a star, and of a specific gravity.

Or maybe a group of systems within a certain vicinity that have metallic rings.

So yes, exploration missions would be nice, IMO.

yeah. You're free to like whatever you like, obviously. It seems to be that you like the "twitchy" pew pew gameplay, which is fine. But just FYI there most certainly is effort in exploration. It's just more long-term effort.

The reason I asked my question is because you said you needed an objective. My objective in exploring is stuff like this:

But I get that other people have different objectives.

You're absolutely right. My Cobra is kitted for fighting, mainly the rob NPC's of loot variety. Mix in a bit of circumstantial trading, too. (Medicine to outbreaks, etc.)

But exploring? Eh... Just not for me. I get some people see amazing things out there, but all I see is nothing. That's my perspective, anyway.

Now if there missions along the lines what I described, that might be a game changer for me. As it stands though, my interests are all well within the bubble.

YMMV

My problem is that my alt account has what my main account needs to unlock Palin- and it is a vanilla Elite (no Horizon's) account. I use it for exploration, and my main account for all other purposes. My main account has been out pretty far, but not far enough for Palin. I keep going round and round and round...

Not quite, but the Goddess of Achievement is quietly sobbing in the corner.

Why buy a massive space game when you don't want to go anywhere?

I don't consider the bubble small. And I love flying all over it. Not all of us are pioneers, I'm the first to admit that.

5K LY and back could significantly advance you in exploration ranks (I assume you are nobody in this area yet). And even if you don't care about exploration, it still means better missions.

if you want it fast, buy a DBX, use the neutron highway and then blow you up

the good thing is, if you resist the urgent to blow you up, you get like 5-7 Mio and Palin is at rank 3-4 if you did the fragment search first

I get that a lot of players wouldn't miss the re-buy of an Asp or DBX.

However I am not most people. I've only just seriously started work on engineering, and I'm quite content with flying the Hauler. Thing is, I will be able to tolerate the journey out... There's a reward after all. The invitation from Palin. The journey back however... In my ultra-niche case, credits won't cut it.

Anyway, question answered, I'm going to ask this thread be closed.

I do appreciate what you guys are saying, and see exactly what you are saying. However, personally, I prefer my plan.

there's absolutely jack-squat to do. I find the uninhabited space mind-numbingly boring, to the point it physically hurts.

can't you just ... be there? are you such a bad company to yourself? enjoy the view, the stars will be there too, for you. :p
