I have great screenshots to share but they are too big..help

Really impressed at the screenshots Commanders are adding visually showing us thier journeys.

I also have lots of screenshots to add to a Commanders log I want to pop into the explorer thread. However:

Massive high res screenshots from my alt/f10 screenies
Way too big to insert onto forum
How do I compress so i can insert?

I understand this is a bone stupid question but how do I do it?

Advice as always massively appreciated.

In reality - when you do the HUGE .bmp files they lose a lot when compressed, but.... best bet is to save as a PNG and link to them from a Photobucket account.

I always take a F10 and a ALT F10 for the ones I really want to keep then save the F10 screenie as a JPEG - this fits on the forum

There are plenty of free image editors out there you can use to resize your images and save them in a different format. One such is The Gimp, thought if all you need is just to resize and resave it may be overkill as it pretty much offers photoshop like functionality.

Also you can get apps that do a "bulk" edit of a folder of pics (i.e. export all .bmp files into jpg's and reduce the size and quality settings.) so you are left with the original bmp's and smaller more usable jpg's for posting.

Take a look at this: (never used it but looks simple enough to use)

I just end up converting them to .png and uploading them to dumpyourphoto.com

A bit inneficcent, but meh.

If you are converting a lot open with "Microsoft picture manager" and select "View -> Thumbnails".
Tick the ones you want then go "file -> Export" and set to .jpg on the right hand panel that pops up.

Irfanview is free and easy to use.

Open your pic in Irfanview then....

Click Image -> Resize/resample -> select say 70% or 80% -> click OK

Then save the resized image to your desktop. Irfanview is also good for quick cropping.
