I have no idea what I'm doing

Hey all, I just got the game. I keep seeing people in a local asteroid belt I'm in and I'm near them, but I can't communicate with them neither via hitting 2 (nothing shows up but a blank window) and enter does not work either.

I'm extremely newbie right now and I can't find a good tutorial that seems to tell me what I'm doing. I'd really appreciate some links. Google is actually less than helpful, seeing that the game is constantly changing.

Check your radar, if the ship icon is solid it is an npc, If it is hollow it is a player. If there is nobody showing in your chat window you probably found a couple of npc's.

try watching twitch . there are several people who play elite and stream..you can chat with the streamer and most of them are happy to explain

Thanks guys. How do I outfit my ship? I landed on a station and am in the hangar, but I don't have options to outfit or anything.

Omg, I am so confused. I did the tutorials, though.

Don't worry, it's not you. The game is lacking in tutorials, tool tips and basic item information. If Frontier doesn't fix this issue, the forum will explode with basic questions after the release. And reviews will certainly distinguish between a proper learning curve of mastering your ship and missing tutorials and tool tips.

It's a pretty steep learning curve for sure, especially at the very start of things. I would advise on completing all the tutorials up to "sidewinder face-off" before heading out into the game proper. This might take hours (it did for me) but stick with it, the game is worth it.

While all larger stations have an outfitter + shipyard, many od the smaller outposts don´t have such a thing (as well as not all outposts have a commodity market).
Guess you landed at a smaller outpost without these facilities
