Ships I have serious problems handling the FAS

Greetings everyone,

Today I switched in great hopes from my Vulture to the Federal Assault Ship.
I hoped for an upgrade... but it seems I made an expensive downgrade.

Outfitting I'm playing with:
https://coriolis.io/outfit/federal_...0404B22e2b2a2727.Iw18cQ==.Aw18cQ==?bn=FASkato

All of the following is in Solo Play. So NPCs only.

I wanted to do either CZ or Bounty Hunting.
But even (deadly) Vultures eat through my shields and do some serious dmg on my hull...

Now, I am not very good at staying in Blindspots... I just am not able to understand how to do it xD
(Playing with a thrustmaster t-flight hotas x )
So I'm jousting pretty much. I now tried the Bi-Wave Shield and the normal one. But both are... not sufficient for me I think.

But maybe some of you guys know what I could do to not suck in it (besides the Blindspotting).
Or should I gather some more money for a Anaconda?

Thanks for your input!

There's really not a lot besides staying out of fire. Personally I prefer to use 5A shields rather than Bi-weave because I could stay out of fire enough that the 5As would never drop, but the Biweaves would, but if you'd be having them drop either way then definately go with Bi-weaves.

I'm not sure if you accidentally selected it or if it's actually in your build but you should replace the 5E HRP with a 5D, same with the 3E with a 3D.

If you remove the pulse lasers in favor of multicannons you do a bit less shield damage, but you should be able to run all weapons with just 2 pips to WEPs, allowing you to put max pips into engines if needed while still retaining your full firepower.

With 4 pips to engines I'd advise that whenever you end up infront of a ship, boost directly towards them, just barely avoiding a collision so they have as little time to turn as possible. Then once past them use the FAS's biggest advantage which is that out of all ships it loses the least amount of turn rate at 100% or 0% compared to the optimal 50% speed (this actually makes it the fastest turning ship in the game assuming all ships were tested either at 0% or 100% speed). Use that advantage to turn to face your target, using a second boost once you're able to in order to change direction. With a little bit of lateral thrust this should get you behind them

If you're mostly jousting and are not good at staying out of fire, the FAS is a pretty terrible ship for you, to be honest. It's main advantage is the agility to not get hit. What you probably want is more of a shield tank - Vulture, Fer-De-Lance, Python, Anaconda, Corvette, or Cutter.

Thanks for the suggestions. I am pondering switching to the python instead, then to farm for the corvette.

FAS ain't fast enough at all for Bi-Weave and only needs the 5A Shield. Do however use 2 turrets on top as you will mainly be turning upwards and these will keep a lock on your target even when you can't see them. It really was the best Ship for combat as it didn't spawn the big boys it couldn't handle so much. Every Ship feels slow as stock and gets to be slick after the Engineer Upgrades to PP & Thrusters. I'd stick with it until you really can afford to fly and keep a Python - the insurance is about 6.4 to 10million on these and they also need serious upgrades to survive and move well. N.B. whilst you carry ENGINEER cargo you will attract Elite Condas and get you killed in seconds in unsecure Systems and even more whilst on Missions. You will certainly lose a few Pythons so afford many.

I'll be honest. So far I have not even barely looked into the whole engineer stuff. I've been mainly doing High Res and CZ missions (for the ranking). Right now I'm seeing that a fully equiped Python, as I imagine it, would cost me around 202 million with 10M insurance. Well it's a bit more until I can get that loadout. But i think even with half that stuff I can farm more effectively RES.

The FAS is my favourite combat ship by far. My FDL and Python are collecting dust because they turn too slowly for me. The FAS is known as a Vulture on steroids for good reasons - it's almost as agile, but has no power problems and much better firepower.

Regarding your build, don't use Pulse as the FAS has enough power for the stronger lasers. Try 2x L Burst + 2x M Multicannon, or 1x L Beam + 3x Multicannon. On my unmodded FAS, I use two SCBs (5A and 4A) with heat sinks; they help to keep me in a CZ an hour at a time. ;)

The FAS is not really a shield ship. It has good hull strength, though, and you should be able to sit in fire for a while before anything gets troubling. Not that you should intend to be sat in fire, of course. The turn on the FAS is great, so you should be aiming to achieve a position of superiority and stay there, whilst you empty whatever you have into the enemy.

Hi
I dont know if is a good build with the FAS
but i Equipped in the large hard point a beam laser and a burst, and in the mediums a couple of Frag Cannons....sadly i cant test the build because i bought her yesterday and this week because of my work i cannot play the game.
any sugestion is well received.

I'm still enjoying the FAS, and yes, with 5A shield and boosters, I lose my shields.
However, unlike the Vulture, the FAS fitted with hull reinforcements can handle a lot of PVE punishment until the shields come back. Also, its great maneuverability makes it quite easy to stay on the enemy's thrusters.
I haven't engineered it, but I might have mirrored bulkheads, I don't recall at the moment.

The FAS is my go to combat ship. Your build looks pretty close to mine, straight hull tank.

I run two or three plasmas. When I run two, It's accompanied by two large multis. I have chaff, heat sinks, KWS, and one shield booster. That last one doesn't matter much, because the shields kinda suck on it. I absolutely wreck **** with the regular xbox controller. Target powerplants for quick kills on the big ships. Took out 3 'Condas at once that way. Got roughed up pretty bad, but the FAS got the job done.

I have few engineer upgrades, only a lvl1 dirty drive, lvl2 weapons focused distributor(for the plasmas), and lvl1 short range multis. Even before those, I was trashing everything.

At one point, I was running an SCB, but I took it off. Not much point with crap shields lol.

Pretty sure you're thinking of the FGS, as the FAS is actually quite fast, and doesn't have 2 hardpoints ontop.

hm.
yes, the FAS had got hitten indirect with a nerf buff (armor tanking).
yes, it's shields are still near none existing.

Nevertheless you should be able to stay at least half an hour in any CZ (up to one full hour) without any haste. I even can tank one three-wing ganking on me in a CZ until I've killed them all.
That is I have a small SCB included (without the need for Heat Sinks).

That's my build.
Engineered it has 2709 Hit points, 534 (+376) Shields (Prismatics + SCB), Thermal Vent Beam Laser, one Corrosive Shell oc MC, two normal oc MCs.
