I have two copies of Elite on my account, how can I give one as a gift?

A mistake when ordering meant I ordered two copies of the game. I can't seem to find a way to give the other copy to someone. I tried to contact customer support (on the freakin' 14th, 48-hour response my sweet ass) to cancel the PRE-ORDER (Which is what it was at the time) but 11 days later, nothing.

So I want to give the second copy to a friend. How do I go about doing this? At least it won't just sit there indefinitely, and I can cancel this useless ticket. Every time I see it I get a little more annoyed. If you can't keep even a vaguely reasonable time frame for your customer support, then don't promise a response window! Ugh.
 
I have a feeling after posting this, you'll be able to work this out with customer service, but it might be better to bump this tomorrow or Saturday, as today is kinda....special for a lot of folks.

That's exactly why I'm asking. At least I can turn this into a Christmas gift. Turn something annoying into something nice.
 
Possibly personal messages to devs or moderators you find in forum posts would get you attention. This forum is so fast moving I expect a lot is missed. They read the bugs forum, could try a post there too.
I'm sure it'll be sorted, but might be a while.

Is there a way to purchase items in the store as gifts?

Not currently, although this is something we are investigating. For the moment anything you purchase through the store will be fixed to your account, so we recommend not buying anything that you intend to offer as a gift.

...so why is it even possible to buy multiple copies? There's literally nothing you can do with the second purchase.

Just be aware that most of the Mods are not part of the Dev team, and as such have no way to solve this for you. The most they may be able to do, depending on who you contact and when they see the message, would be to attempt to pass it on to someone who can.
