I hope, one day, to be the one to find something amazing...

I love exploration in this game, and after having been forced away from it for over a year, I am finally back, and really excited for some of the new features coming. Which brings me to my point: I direct your attention to this little tidbit from the changelog;

New Content & Features (Non-Horizons)

• Mysterious locations added that we’re not going to tell you about

What does this mean? Is it thargoid related? Or something....else?

See, as said, I love exploration. The monotony of it doesn't seem to affect me as much, or in the same way, as it seems to affect some others. Although I do it for profit, yes, I mainly do it because I enjoy going places nobody has ever been to, even in a virtual space. And also because it is my hope, my dream, that one day I can come to this forum with screenshots of something incredible. Not some beautiful ring system, or expansive view of some beautiful RNG terrain on some airless rock, or any other countless number of pictures people have already seen, although some are nonetheless impressive...Nor do I even refer to something like a thargoid wreck or base or whatever.

I'm talking BIG. Like, dropping into an unexplored star system with an otherwise ordinary, plain-old, main-sequence star, expecting to SEE said ordinary, plain-old, main-sequence star, but instead seeing NOTHING. Why? Cause it's surrounded by a GOD DAMMNED DYSON SPHERE, GOD DAMMIT!!! I mean, think about it...dyson spheres. Ring worlds. Space faring biological organisms (like Mynocks from star wars, or Leviathans from Farscape, you get the idea). I hope to one day fly close to a moon, and suddenly realize it's NOT a moon....it's a BATTLESTATION.

Look, I know I sound like a total nerd right now. But I don't care. And I know that the odds that anything like this even EXISTS in game, never mind the odds that "I" specifically would be the one to find one, are "ASTRONOMICAL" (see what I did there? sorry, I love puns #sorrynotsorry). BUT I DONT CARE. It is what keeps me going back to the deep black time and time again....

What about you? Why do you do it? What keeps you diving into the deep?

Yes mysterious things are thargoid related. Have been in the past.

I love exploration and not doing it for profit. I'm out on a trip that will last for a very long time and enjoying every second. As for being a nerd, well labels are irrelevant. Elite is a virtual universe and we choose to be in it. No judging, no labels. Good for some, not good for others, each of us makes a choice.

Welcome back to the game. :D

hmm. Too bad. But what do you think are the odds that something like what I describe is already in-game?

Honestly? I'd be very surprised if something like this was in-game, given how strict the storyline has been so far. Not that I wouldn't welcome it, of course. I'd love to see things like giant space worms pulling out of asteroids trying to eat my ship... Well not eat eat... You know what I mean. :D

RIGHT? I mean, I don't mean to sound ungrateful, but if any devs are "listening", PLEASE put something like this in. Somehow. Somewhere. SOMEDAY!

I LOVE the thargoid stuff, but its a BIG god damned galaxy. There's ALOT of room to play with here, both in the physical sense (which is an ironic statement, as the physical sense I refer to is in fact digital), as well as the literary.

HELL, I wouldn't even REQUIRE there be a story. Just a simple

"hey I found this really cool thing",

"but why is it there?"

"*shrugs"

"huh. still, it's pretty god damned cool"

"RIGHT?"

Its like this time, recently, when I spent 4 hours, FOUR GOD DAMNED HOURS (que angry joe meme) driving up the side of a very tall, VERY steep mountain (terrain was too uneven to land my ship anywhere on the mountain) on some airless rock in some un-named system, some 7 or 8 thousand ly beyond the bubble in the middle of NOWHERE, just so I could get to the highest point and get a god damned SCREEN SHOT OF A FAKE, DIGITAL, MOUNTAIN RANGE ON AN AIRLESS ' ROCK WITH A GAS GIANT W/RINGS AND THE MILKY WAY AND BERNARHDS LOOP IN THE "SKY". And you know what? It was DANGEROUS. I nearly died at least 4 times on the way back down, barrel rolling down the side of the mountain in my SRV several THOUSAND meters.

The screenshot wasn't the "why" of it. There was no value in it, real or digital. There was no role-play reason. I wasn't streaming on YouTube or twitch, trying to impress a crowd. So why did I climb that mountain, and risk death and loss of two weeks worth of ex. data?

BECAUSE IT WAS THERE. The mountain. It, the mountain, was there, on the planet. I climbed it because it was there, and it was screaming at me "YOU CANT GET UP HERE IN YOUR SRV!", and I was like, "CHALLENGE ACCEPTED BRAH!", and you know what? I DID. No rhyme. No reason.

I feel the same way about finding a dyson sphere. Let it's (or any other cool, scifi ish thing) existence remain a mystery. Mystery adds wonder to a story. Just like "the force" in star wars (or at least, until G. lucas ruined it with "midichlorians".)

Not everything need be explained....which is ironic because I just explained a bunch of ...

*oh look my driver updates are done. time to restart and then go play elite

The Lexx could be out there.. Stanley Tweedle behind the wheel ;)

I would love to drop into a system and see a Big Dumb Object sitting there*. Even better if it wasn't one out of the standard SF playbook - spheres and rings - but was something unusual that had been dreamed up to fit into the Elite universe. Raxxla surrounded by a space-time vortex, or a witch-space zone, or a fleet of Space Dredgers taking apart a Thargoid hive ship or, I dunno, whatever! (Imagination is not my strong suit.)

*again. :D

I'm yet to find a TARDIS in this Galaxy.

Saw a TARDIS yesterday in Valigursky Orbital. It was disguised as a srv but that was of course just a hologram skin. Only plausible explanation really.

There is no TARDIS in this galaxy!!!!

*covers the TARDIS at the back of her ship with duvets and blankets*

None, I tell you! Trust me, I'm telling the truth. *nod nod*

Somehow, I'm suspicious.

It is indeed the only reasonable explanation...
