I hope others can see a graphical flicker like I can...

After the update I've got a weird graphical effect. I hope to describe it properly and someone else confirms they have it. When menus activate, you can have the fancy animation of the menu 'building' itself, or just popping up. I've got the just popping up, but when a menu is activated, the background behind it 'wobbles'. It wasn't there before the new release, but now is. It doesn't seem to be a graphical effect, rather the polygonal detail of the ship has its vertices moved in a flickering way.

This is most noticable with menus, but comes along with all HUD elements and light sources as well, external and internal. It's really distracting and can't be a new addition by design - it looks awful. It's not the wobble when you come out of hyperspace, this is something new. Do you have this? I'm on a Vive with a 1080.

this may be motion smoothing effect in steamVR settings. Try disabling it and see if it get rid of the wobble effect

It will be that. Oculus users have the same problem with ASW, although Oculus have a new version coming out (ASW 2.0) that fixes this, the game has to support it.

I was having the same problem. Disabling the "motion smoothing" in SteamVR fixed the problem. I no longer have the weird pop-up effects or wobbly menus.

Ooooo if this fixes it I will be very very pleased. Any idea why it's doing it now though?
Steam recently introduced the "motion smoothing" option. Unfortunately, it coincided with the release of the Elite update, so it initially seemed to be a bug with Elite. Disabling that option will hopefully resolve your issue too.

Are you running two video cards and SLI?
I've spent 3 weeks trying to get the game to run on my setup... and I stumbled across a similar issue with Project cars 2 VR mode...

The solution I found was to go into the 3d settings secton on my NVIDIA control panel and turn threaded optimization off for Elite Dangerous.

Elite dangerous does not seem to play well with SLI. I have been talking to the tech support team for weeks and making every change I can... and on a hunch, this fixed it.

Elite Dangerous has never supported duel graphics cards be it Nvidia or AMD.

Huge difference between not supporting it and it ACTIVELY causing problems..

Especially when their tech support spent weeks troubleshooting and it was never mentioned.

Have a nice day, though

VR with duel graphics cards has been a problem in ED for years. SLI is dying now anyway as Nvidia has stopped making profiles for it. Never lived up to the hype anyway.

Let me reword it.

I am offering a possible solution to someone that might not be aware of the problem.

I spent 3 weeks with frontier tech support trying to get my rig to work with ED. THEY never told me it was an issue. THEY completely missed that in my system set up.

So, since I discovered that was the issue, I am sharing with people who might be having the same issue.

This is not the time nor the place for dumping on SLI, as it's not contributing to the thread

You replied to a 3 year old post. Maybe you should have started your own thread where the few people who still use multi-GPU rigs would see it?

Because the OP never said it was solved.

It's hilarious to me that you are being biligerent and trying to shame me for being helpful.

If you read the thread you will see the OP said the problem was fixed on the same day. Your fix would be much more helpful in it's own thread as it is so specific.

I've had the same problem in about the last month or so and no amount of tinkering with Steam settings or WMR settings will get rid of it. Either it's unrelated to motion smoothing on my rig or motion smoothing doesn't actually get disabled when it says it is. Kinda given up even trying to fix it and just accepting the glitching. I think for me it's an ED bug since nothing else has a problem for me.

?

Nothing plays well with SLI, even when there were actively supported profiles it was poop.

For VR an AFR rendering pipeline is fundamental frametime suicide.
