Old school metal, rock, punk and hardcore punk is the best in my view.

Try out bands like the Dead Kennedys, the Pixies, Mudhuney, Black Sabbath, Aerosmith, The Ramones (one of my personal favourites), Faith no More, Sonic Youth etc.

The list is vitually endless.

I'll tell you something... This sound makes me feel a happy I've not felt in a long time.

Hi,

AC/DC live at River Plate.

Music can easily help set a mood. If I am in a combat mode (in Elite: Dangerous) and I have just done a big kill it is possible I will fire up AC/DC "Thunderstruck". If I am exploring and I find a beautiful system I could put All Saints "Black Coffee" on. I have recently bought both albums by Lorde ("Pure Heroine" and "Melodrama"), as I feel she has a lovely voice.

I would make a simple suggestion here. When you find music you like do NOT be swayed by others. The right music for ANY mood is that which works for you. You can always seek advice, but good music affects everybody in different ways. Just because I like the music of Lorde (and a lot of others) does not mean you will.

Oh yeah, make no mistake. Nobody said to me "listen to this".

I was just browsing Spotify, saw the tile for a playlist, clicked play and whadd'ya know, I think the sound is bloody amazing.

I recently got hold (again) of the Marillion album "Misplaced Childhood". I had it a long time back, and I found that, when I fired it up after getting it again, I could remember all of the lyrics. I can 'sing' along to them, but I would not inflict my vocal talents on others! :D

The song "Fugazi" turns up on the Marillion double album of the same name.

Man your music tastes are virtually the same as mine. Love all of those bands apart from Firehouse. Not too sure I have heard them before, so will have to check them out.

Indeed. :)

Firehose are a slightly odd american punkish band who came from what was left of the Minutemen when one of that group died. They featured in a lot of old skate vids back in the day (along with the likes of Sonic youth and Dinosaur jr) which is how I got into them.

Some really good tips here! Especially Pavement, Led Zeppelin and Maiden. May I add Rainbow, Rising album is excellent. For elite dangerous I love the mighty spacerock of Hawkwind, especially 'the golden void' and 'space is deep' tracks.
In my cobra mk3 naturally!

I'll throw Twisted Sister in here, because, well, the linked song could be the anthem for all the whining threads!

Growing up in Aussieland, I was also exposed to lot of pub rock in the 80's 90's. The Angels probably one of the better known ones.

Z...

Something you might want to try is Jeff Wayne's "War of the Worlds", based on the book by H. G. Wells (which, if you have a Kindle, is free to download). I have not heard the version where Liam Neeson is the Journalist, but Richard Burton had the right voice for the role.
