Hadn't played with my reallife friend in over two weeks in game. Last time we saw eachother we both had shiny vultures. He has told me that he has upgraded to a clipper since then and i have upgraded to a python. So we are going to meet up at a RES with another buddy and have some fun bounty hunting. Because of wing man nav lock I get dropped out at the same place out friend did who set the beacon, 40km from the RES. I kind of thought it was funny and started boosting away to get there. Getting closer and closer. Ten kilometers away I can make out the shape of my friends new clipper! Its big! Im stoked. At 4 o 3.5 kilometers I start cut the engines to stop in front of him. So does he. His clipper stops and my big bulky pthon wizzes by him slowly losing momentum.I am thrusting down and looking up to turn so i can see what is now... it cant be.... yes the clipper has a red brilliant paint job! Im about to bounty hunt with this beauty. Then boom I down thrust into an unseen asteroid!!! Blow up my beloved python. He laughs. Just seeing your friends ship blow up in front of you, costing him 5million would make any CMDR who is a true friend laugh.
The main part of the story I want to emphasize is that I LAUGHED. Because I had enough for insurance!!!! This game is super fun. Even if you die. As long as you remember the game mechanics.
Oh and to add to the story afterwords my friend asked if i was going to come back to bounty hunting. I looked at my bank account. Didnt have enough for another insurance buy and said "no". Why? Because I put over a hundred hours in game play to get that ship (the first million is the hardest million AMIRITE?) and am not stupid enough to ignore the simple game mechanics and risk losing it all.
Pretty much its a shame so many people can spend the time to earn a ship like this to then lose it so idiotically. Then post about it and complain like they are some how in the right in any way what so ever to say that its too harsh of a punishment. It takes away from the game experience to let me think maybe I could have just gone and bounty hunted with my friends. And if i had died a second time i could havejust posted about it with a tear and got my ship back instead of spending this evening trading. ( i like trading so my evening isnt a loss)
Anyways, this game has a super bright future. Once the soft shells get weeded out we will end up with a community of people who get the concept of action and consequence and it will be "game on" from there.
