Anyway, i bite.

It's a sandbox game, so... it's about freedom, you choose what to do, pirate npcs/players, kill them or force them to drop their cargo, Trade, mine, explore the galaxy and sell scans from far away planets.. mine... well.. do what ever you want, heck you could even just fly over and over again against a star.

Also go find the adoretv page on youtube that does a nice job of detailing the different things to go about in the game. Quite informative and entertaining.

Welcome to the game, also read up on the information on the forums and the links above. Do the tutorials as well may sound daft but trust me they are worth doing.

if anyone is willing to teach me the ropes in game send me a private msg with your skypes in. It looks like it might help to have some guidance in the early stages, similar to eve i guess.

Not that bad really. Take small steps. Once you can reliable undock, travel to another system and dock at a station there, you can start actually doing things - exploring, missions, trading. Your first ship is a freebie and it will be replaced for free so no pressure of losing anything at start

Hope you like it! If you go to www.elitedangerous.com you'll find several text and video guides and tutorials under the "Tutorials" tab. I haven't actually looked at these because they didn't exist when I joined the beta, but they look like a good start.

I also recommend the in-game tutorials, although they're possibly not as polished as they could be.

No its not. Its open play, theres no sandbox in this game as your action has zero importance to this world.
You can buy commodities and fly to other station sell it.
You can go to asteroid belt/navigation beacon/visit random signals/or interdict others ships. Mostly what you do there is fight against other ships or collect useless cargo.
You can explore systems. That means repetive activity. Scanning same planets over and over again.
You can mine which is worst activity of all.

Graphics and sounds are amazing however. Fights are fun. But gameplay lacking. Hope it gets better.
