I love Elite Dangerous. Where else can I fly around doing the exact same game play to achieve money to afford a bigger ship to do more of the exact same thing only on a larger scale? Trade, Explore or Kill, this game has it all. If I spend hours of the quickly diminishing time left I have on earth flitting about the 1:1 galaxy doing what I like, I consider that time well spent. But what ho? There is something "new" on the horizon? (No pun intended)
I can alter said ship to whatever I want? And if caught I am banned to solo play? Why. that is the mode I play most so... this is a win/win scenario for me! I can have my Type-9 fly turn like an A-Rated, Highly Engineered Vulture? Or better? And I can put Plasma Accelerators that provide -10 heat every time they fire? They can have a fire rate of MCs?!? It's like Christmas in July, complete with Bing singing about snow and hot cocoa with marshmallows for everyone!
And if, not necessarily when, I am caught I get banned to Solo. For days. Even though, by then, I will have ranked up to Elite and have sated my blood lust? I can't lose! To paraphrase the 1987 movie "Wall Street"... the words in caps have replaced the actual words
I am not a destroyer of GAMES. I am a liberator of them!
The point is, ladies and gentleman, that CHEATING-- for lack of a better word -- is good.
CHEATING is right.
CHEATING works.
CHEATING clarifies, cuts through, and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit.
CHEATING, in all of its forms -- CHEATING for life, for money, for love, knowledge -- has marked the upward surge of mankind.
And CHEATING-- you mark my words -- will not only save ELITE DANGEROUS, but that other malfunctioning corporation called the GAMING INDUSTRY.

Now, of course, I did not cheat. And I do not support cheating in this or any other facet of life. But here's the thing... for some people, if there is way to skew anything in their favor, they will take it. Oh, my kid wants to go to USC and I have money, so I should be able to buy my kid's way in. Anyone remember KFA cheat code? Up Up, Down Down, Left Right, Left Right A B Start? I am not saying it's human nature to cheat, but cheating in video games isn't anything new.
As many have said, I also am in full support of BANNING anyone caught doing this one time. Much like the Meth PSA's around my low income housing... Not Even Once. Get caught, BAM! Banned. For life.
Why for life? Because by the time someone is caught cheating, they have already been doing it for quite awhile. Unless they are really overt about it... "Hey YouTube, watch as I jump from SOL to Beagle Point in 3 jumps!"
