I just got back from a 6 hour exploration run...........not good

Your and their loss. Exploration is fun and addicting, but I also enjoy mining and find it relaxing.

If you only want to do the most profitable things then you'll miss out on 80% of the game. Also I might add I spent many months with under 100k, you don't need to be rich or earning lots to have fun and enjoy yourself. Get out of that mindset and enjoy :)
.
I enjoy mining too. What I started doing when I had my Asp was to mine planets with metal rich rings that I would discover. This was a great change of pace plus you get some awesome screen shots from rings.
.
In the next few days I going to equip my new Python with a 5 or 6 bin refinery, ADS, DDS, and a couple of mining lasers and go back into the void. When I return, I'll have several tons of high priced minerals and hopefully at least 100's of thousand of credits of exploration data to sell (maybe millions).
.
Its all fun. The great views, the tranquil time mining without the hassle of interdictions, and the thrill of finding new things.
.
Have a nice day

Apparently, ammonia and rocky ice planets are the only ones where there is no proof of being terraforming candidates

Z...
Im on my second little trip, and im sure i saw terraformable icy planet, which was also a moon. It was somewhere between Hind and California Nebula. But as you said i dont have a proof, shame i didnt make a screenshot of it.

I've been doing some pondering on why some people (like me) love exploration and others don't see much in it. I realized that the answer, at least for me, lies outside of gaming.

When I was a pre-teen and teenager my family frequently went on camping trips all over the western United States. I particularly remember a trip to Glacier National Park in Montana. I spent hours hiking miles of trails, wanting to see what was around the next bend. It didn't matter that all of the trees looked pretty much the same, or all of the rocks were the same with just different textures, and I had no illusions that I would find some ancient artifact or wrecked ship, but I wanted to see it all.

When I was in my early twenties, when I still had some time on my hands, my favorite thing on a Saturday afternoon would be to hop in my old beat-up 4x4 and take off across the desert following some old dirt road or dry wash bed that I hadn't followed before, just to see where it went. I had a few friends that liked those trips, but many got pretty bored, pretty fast. On the other hand, I was totally uninterested in a lot of the parties and such that they liked.

Now days, those types of adventures are harder to come by for me, but I can take an hour or two on some days to continue my journey in Elite. Every system I jump into is sort of like going around a corner on the trail, wondering what I would see next.

So, in the end, I think that how you feel about exploration in Elite is not so different than how you feel about different activities in real life. Some things interest you, some things don't. Find out what works for you and do it.

It's all about the FedCredits, baby...

Now, what y'all wanna do?
Wanna be miners? Forty-Niners?
Pirates, who be dippin' in the Credz wit the Clippers
On the low from the Jake in their Adders
Tryin' to get my hands on some Credz like it matters
Yeah livin' the lawless, puttin laser to steel
Cobra, Sidewinder, Asp, an' FDL

...

and so on ;)

Its your loss. I have over 600 million in game credits and I explore frequently. Its not about the credits.
Oh please, I went from 12 million+ credits to 670k credits buying and outfitting an asp for exploration. I was concerned that I would not enjoy exploration but not want to sell my asp (I keep most ships I buy) and though I am but two hours in and unable to play till' Friday I have no intention of stopping now, though I realize that it will probably be months before exploration can even reimburse me partially. :)

o7 all you fellow explorers out there!- CMDR Kbear
