I just hate it when planes fly over and my radio picks up the safety demonstrations...
No wait, that never happens.
I'd like to know why every second beluga is reporting malfunctions.
I agree, but I get why they did it. What would make more sense is if there was chatter with starports and cities, you know like:
Sirius Star Lines: Galileo Starport, this is Beluga 779 Heavy, I have a disruptive passenger and will need emergency clearance and security services ready on arrival.
Galileo Starport: Beluga 779 Heavy, acknowledged, police have been informed, emergency docking clearance request registered, docking pad will be available on your arrival. What is your ETA?
Sirius Star Lines: Currently 120 light seconds out, direct approach.
Galileo Starport: Copy, we'll be ready for you. Galileo traffic control out.
My theory on that is that, we, as Pilot's Federation members (aka space illuminati) get access to a lot of very exclusive (ejector seat) but not necessarily legal equipment. For example, a device able to listen on comms from ships (see Anaconda cockpit thingy with exposed cables) that you shouldn't be able to receive.
A few examples:
_Dude on the galphone in a wedding barge calls his friend panicking, "I haven't even wrote my vows yet".
_Cruise liner broadcasting to its passengers "and remember that this vessel is in the top 1% of cruise liners"
_Classified military convoy comms between themselves about their secret cargo is eating through their subsystems.
_Pirate muttering to himself in his cockpit "I didn't expect this"
_Search and rescue ships messaging back to base about the state of the wreckage.
Etc. Etc.
I Like the idea ..... But
Radio waves propagate at the speed of light . Almost all of us approach in supercruse faster than that. Your Beluga 779 Heavy would arrive before it's radio message.:x
