Newcomer / Intro I just wanna kill things...

God this game is confusing, I dislike when games hold your hand but this is a little too much.

So I started the game up, first off I travelled to pick up my Eagle. The navigation isn't too bad, managed to find where my ship was being located pretty easily.

After picking up my ship I just wanted to go hunt things, so I pick up 2 bounty missions, kill Trades and Kill pirates. After warping to the system I was told to go to, I find a couple "clean" ships at my first nav beacon, decide to check a few jump points within the said system but to no avail. I cannot for the life of me find any pirates, finally after about an hour of running around from "unidentified signal sources" I finally find 1 single pirate... after well over an hour of looking.

At this point I'm getting pretty annoyed, so I just end up taking out my frustration on random NPC traders which I keep getting "wanted" status for.. at this point I don't care I just want to shoot things!!

What am I doing wrong? How do you find the pirates or traders needed for these bounties? Also why isn't there any loot from traders?

Also I heard there are places that have a constant war going on, can anyone direct me to said location?

Thank you.

Go to the Galatia map and search sabargo and plot a course there. Find a station and spend 300 on a fuel scoop first... You'll probably need one to make it there :p

Wait at a Nav Point or a Resource Extraction Site and you will find plenty of Wanted ships pass through. They change over time, new ones warping in, others warping out. Note that not sure these count as pirates for the missions, but they are great for killing things!

For the missions, you go from USS to USS, or get interdicted (carrying cargo may increase the chance of being interdicted, not sure, but I do seem to get more interdictions if my hold has things in it), and get the wanted ships from there, that does work for sure for the missions.

Also for pure combat, you can find a Combat Zone, not common, only happen in systems with ongoing war of some kind. Again, won't work for your missions, but a great place for doing nothing but shooting!

If you just want bounties, nav beacons are great. If you want pirates specifically, I'm afraid you have to cruise around the USS:es and/or hope to be interdicted by one.

What about the sectors with no nav beacons or unidentified things?

Just took another bounty, got the the star, however there is nothing here...like nothing, no specific place to jump out of super cruise either.

Getting kinda aggravated by this game, doesn't seem like you can get anything done in 1-2hour sessions, so far my first 4 hours of play, I've killed 1 pirate and a handful of random NPCs without any reason other than boredom and I'm pretty damn close to just putting this aside for a while.

On the plus side the sense of immersion and the audio are great, if I could just find things to kill with a purpose.

And when I can actually find something to kill the combat and controls are great, also docking in a crowded station feels, sounds and looks great!

I must be doing something wrong here, I really really want to enjoy this game, I'm seeing glimpse's of greatest but they are very few and far apart.

If you just want to kill anything, it's a lot of fun but be prepared to leave whatever factions space you're causing trouble in as the price on your head will become quite large, quickly. Also, a frame shift interdictor will give you the option of picking fights from super cruise. Just assign it to a fire group, get behind your target in SC and fire. You can pull them into normal space where you're free to commit their ashes to the void.

If that appeals to you, I recommend this guide on living with being wanted.

So you're wanted now? A primer on bounties, stations, and death.

Hasn't anybody heard of Anarchy planetary systems? I have found 2 of them and they seem fun. Remember if you are a person who was brought up on ELITE you would know all about how systems work and the security levels of systems. the lower the security level the more you will find pirates. If you want to kill things find a very low security system and have fun.

The game itself does feel a bit mambe pamby at the moment and actually feels more like a nanny state system. I think they should hit us with fully loaded pirates everywhere just as there was in all the other 3 main versions of this game.

Anarchy systems are a good point! I forgot to mention them. Thank you.

Personally I am against all things federation and frankly, busy fed systems are full of juicy targets. Haha, that's probably why they hate me so. Just shy of a 200,000cr bounty in federation space on my head. Long live the Empire!

To be honest it does sound a bit like you're jumping into nav beacons, taking a quick look around and then saying "well, nothing here, off I go". You need to hang around and wait for ships to pop in. Some produce more wanted than others, but you can make a fair bit of money there. You may also want to get a FSD interdictor and hang around in super cruise, plenty of wanted ships will pop up especially if that system has a large population (again some systems will produce more or less than others) or is in some sort of disorder (lugh for example, though watch out for players role playing the part of religious nuts).

Elite requires patience as much as anything else.

Noob question here :D - I've been doing "ok" by going to nav beacons / USS etc - but how do you tell the security level of a system / find anarchy systems? - just keep looking or?

Anarchy systems have no/low security or government. They'll be white or grey on your galaxy map although some independent systems are anarchies as well.

Ok so be more patient at the nav beacons. But what about the bounties that bring me to a red dwarf that is "unexplorered" with no USS or Nav beacons? Just a big red sun with nothing to target at all?

Just cruise around them. USS will pop up. They'll be more rare there though. Also, there will occasionally be NPCs cruising around in SC that you can interdict. You'll need a kill warrant scanner in anarchy systems though.

You can hunt pirates at nav beacons, they are the ones that scan you and give you some of that 'blah blah blah what goodies do you have in your hold' talk.
You scan him, kill him and the mission ticker changes.

Same with the 'kill bounty hunter' missions, they are the ones who scan you and tell yoiu to 'move along' because you're clean, and they aren't the Feds. Makes those missions quite easy

If you just want to kill high level pirates low/no security level planets are the best thing.

Its nice to fly around killing, but be warned that as you get stronger, as in reputation, so does the NPC pirates who attack you.

I have killed myself more times than been killed by NPC pirates or pvp pirates. Just remember you can scan them first and if they are wanted just kill them, don't wait for them to demand to scan you get in there first lol, once their shield are down most run for it, even pvpers.

Have a look at the bounty hunting section in my guide here; as a bounty hunter you can freely indulge your murderous impulses and even get paid to do so - everyone's a winner! (except the poor schmucks you kill of course)
