I just want to say "Thanks, Frontier!" for making PvP so amazing with this update!

Sure, there's a lot of salt being tossed around right now, what with FDev leveraging its players to be early-stage alpha testers for their "bug fix" and "quality of life" updates, many of which were apparently hastily coded by Humperdink the New Intern.

But c'mon, PvP is awesome right now (cue Lego Movie theme song for background music). You just need the right mindset!

To enjoy PvP in this incredible new environment, just remember a couple of simple guidelines:
1) Make sure you're flying a shield tank (to avoid that inexplicable fragile-canopy inanity).
2) Run a big, heavy power plant with LOTS of power (so you don't get bitten by that ridiculous power-prioritization reset "feature" and end up dead in the water if you lose some power).
3) Be prepared to wake out if that honorless ganker who interdicted you is running the new-and-improved, beautifully conceived and considered drag frags.
4) Have your graphics settings set to somewhere in the 1990s, for playable frame rates.
5) And, of course, be ready to also wake out if your talentless opponent further kills your degraded frame rate with packhounds.

Follow these simple rules and you'll be JUST FINE!

But wait, you say? What if those are just too many concessions to make? And you're not interested in the silliness of PowerPlay or BGS where people in solo or PG can impact those trying to play the high-road version of the game in Open? Or even if you do play BGS but you're fed-up with the constantly shifting rules that make your best choice of efforts uncertain from one update to the next?

Well, there's always engineering. Because remember: This update made finding HGEs easier!

Oh, sorry... unlike the other changes to the game with this update, that particular QoL change is imperceptible ...if it changed at all. And, of course, the HGEs still don't actually spawn the G5 mats they should in most cases, leaving you to embrace not only the Fickle Finger of Fate in your grinding for random mats, but thrill to the idea of grinding them 6-times harder by using the material trader.

So, "Yay, FDev! Brilliant!"

Remember, all you Stoics, "The Obstacle is The Way."

I feel bad that I've drawn the ire of people who actually believe that PvP was improved with this update and came here for affirmation. Bad Camisade! Bad! Go do pushups!

Well said. The HGE increase is mystifyingly ineffectual (according to reports, I'm still abroad at the moment) and there seems to be no acknowledgement of the canopy issue (for me the biggest screw up this update brought, even more than the drag frag).

I agree, the canopy Bug/Nerf? is a serious issue for me.
We can engineer our ships to make them physically tougher but they now all have a single point of failure built into them, because the front window of a space ship is now made from Annealed glass.

It's great that you are happy😊
I too am happy🤗
Everybody's happy.
👍

With the state of things at the moment, I'm not sure to whether I want to complain about the canopy nerf, or the fact that it doesn't matter in PvE as the NPCs are so nerfed anyway that you can catch a PA full in the face and still have canopy health over 70%.

Now go do those pushups. Are you fit? If not, 20 will do. If you are already fit, make it 100. You have 1 hour. Go.

<snort> I'm out of shape, but not THAT out of shape. 100 pushups? Used to be one set and < 2 minutes. Now? Sadly, I'm old and used ED for my winter recreation, so it'd probably take me 3 sets and 4 minutes. :cautious:

...I'd I'd come out the far end STILL feeling amazed that some people apparently came into this thread feeling that PvP was better now (although none of them have ventured why...)

How many bugs have been reported on issue tracker site? Over 400. And how many have been confirmed? 30? It's almost like they had one bug confirmed and called it a day, everyday since the site went live. I can't see how that's gonna keep up with the pace of development.

Fee Fi Fo Fum, Troll posts are Dumb!
I think you've struck a nerve, OP.

I visited Eravate a couple of nights ago & a naughty "wanted" T-10 cmdr interdicted my Vulture - I've dealt with many big ships & successfully outmanoeuvred the huge majority for victory (not kill, obviously!), including driving off one Harry Potter (twice) hence I thought nothing of it. Let just say when I checked his load-out, it was as if millions of voices suddenly sighed out in tedium...then were suddenly silenced (I'm guessing...audio bug).

Reverb mines plus packhounds with drag....& "drag" certainly adequately describes the events that followed. I still made him wake just before his shields were about to fail while mine were going strong on 2 rings with 4 SCBs remaining & generator integrity of 59% with zero MRPs. This was ~15 minutes of the dullest, tactical PvP one can possibly imagine! Whoever is advocating keeping the extant changes should be strung up by their dangly bits because this gameplay addition is categorically, not fun.

Btw, anyone else playing Frontier's new fun mini-game "Guess which priorities have fu...ruined everything" between instances?

Ummm, okay Talion, I get your frustration, but aren't White Knights supposed to be more patient and tolerant?

You kinda sound like the DG2 crowd....

:)

Made me laugh :).
Smug mode on (apologies in advance).

While I don't pvp in the sense of "duelling" with folk in some sort of fair fight reminiscent of some medieval tourney - all my ships are built to survive pvp and I constantly expect and indeed hope to be attacked when in open (though seldom am).
Any fight I can run (or even stroll) away from is a good one - though I'm not averse to stabbing anyone in the back if the opportunity arises ;)
As a result other than point 4 all my ships and everyday tactics meet your listed criteria ( I have fairly powerfull hardware at my disposal - so even with everything on Ultra the lowest frame rate I've seen is around 70fps for a few second in a busy Shinrarta, elswhere it's 150-200fps - so no need to reduce graphics settings.)
I even pretty much always have packhounds in the mix.
I've never looked for an HGE in my puff, all materials are from traders as required - I always have bucketloads of everything (packrat mentality and scan everything\one) and don't care what the exchange rate is for anything - it's of no consequence to me and never has been.
Buggiest update in awhile mind you, but so far all fairly trivial - now excuse me while I make room amongst my vast pile of money for more void opals
