I keep having NPCs go red and atttack me though were both clean

And not only are we both clean but the npcs that attack me don't get wanted for attacking me either! Seems to happen randomly while I'm bounty hunting at the nav point. Anyone have this or know the cause?

The working theory is that because you're attacking the wanted person's faction, that will turn other ships belonging to it in the vicinity hostile after a while, too. When it happens just supercruise away and come back. They'll be gone and a different spawned group will be there. Sandro in another thread posted something about a glitch that made the cops turn hostile on you when they shouldn't but that it wouldn't be a fast fix. They do know about it, though.

^This.

When I killed a wanted Leestie Steelworker any ship from the steelworks showed as wanted to me, they rarely attack though, but be careful if they do and don't become wanted do not retaliate as I did killed one and got fined 5200 for murder even though they attacked me first and no i wasn't wanted by the faction according to the UI.

Always pays to target and scan the enemy first, let them fire on you first.
if they are a criminal, they will open fire on you when you do a bounty scan and check their criminal records.

You can still do it, just leave for a few seconds in SC when one of them opens up on you and come right back. They don't stay hostile forever unless you really trash your rep doing other things. I can't tell that anything has happened to my rep with factions in Sesuang after hours of blowing up vermin at the their nav point.

And yes, buying a cheap Kill Warrant Scanner and using it before opening fire on someone wanted will definitely magnify your profits and is safer in the long run anyway.

You need to be VERY careful. Just being a red dot on the radar doesn't mean they're wanted, it just means they're hostile and prone to fire on you eventually if you keep aggravating their faction.
