PvP I killed my first CMDR last night

Anyways, yeah, odd reaction

Well done for recognising the dilemma, stuff like this is what I enjoy. I think a 200k bounty means it's safe to say whether they were an innocent but unfortunate in this situation, they were a baddie somewhere nearby ;)

I've only killed another player twice, in both cases I gained their specific & unambiguous permission. It's not a rule I'd hold anyone else to but it's good to have standards & test them to see what it would take to make you bend or break them.

Without considering the dilemma I'd say it was just mindless destruction because you could. With the dilemma it's all good in my book (FWIW) ;)

Top left, comms tab.
Tab across with L1/R1.
You'll see a list of commanders you've come into contact with.
It will say next to them:
Killed you, or
Killed by you.

The text says "You Killed" next to the cmdrs name. I would post an example here but it might be against forum rules. In my case, my collection of screenshots are a result of self-defense ofc.

My first kill was an accident. I was in my cutter at 97 speed and somebody in an Eagle boosted right into me as I was entering the mail slot. Got splattered all over my windshield! :D

Did station defense take you out or speed<100 save you from that fate?

Over 1,000 hours in game. Two years in the cockpit...and last night, I killed my first CMDR.

I was heading back into Jameson Memorial after running some mission for The Dark Wheel. I notice a hollow square outside the mail slot and make sure my speed is below 100km/s on the off chance that it's a suicidewinder. As I get closer, I noticed debris around the area and a Type-10 well and truly stuck in the toast rack. I decide to be a good citizen of the cosmos and nudge the ole' girl and help her get loose.

After a few seconds of prodding very gently (as the Type 10 is already at 74% hull and no shields) the ship is freed from the toast rack and immediately boosts away. Given that I am now in a proper position and to see her off, I nose towards her in my Cutter and, for the first time, scan the vessel. To my surprise, she's wanted...and running...and engaging her frameshift drive.

I didn't think about it at the time, but there was debris outside the station...in my somewhat addle brained state, I had assumed the game was modeling damage to either the shape or the station...but then,in an instant, I realized where I had seen that debris before...it was the hull from whatever had happened right before I jumped in...so either he spaced someone, or led someone in such a way that the station got them. Why else would he be wanted?

In an instant, I thought, I can't let this guy get away! But I would be well inside 10km before he could jump out....how can I kill him?

Ramming speed.

I throttled up and aimed my nose directly at his aft thrusters. When I was within 800km, I boosted and (insert Yamik's squeaky toy SFX here) destroyed him.

200cr for reckless flying...and a 200k bounty on his head to turn in.

I still don't know how I feel about it. [blah]

Greifers need to be greifed… congratulations on helping the cause! :D

My first kills where in a CG conflict zone scenario, only cobras and vipers though so not sure if that counts..... They where cocky too, taking on a fully engineered Corvette with wee little rail plinkers :D

it is good there is a NEW sheriff in town.

I'm not sure how it works but I thought it was only the combat rank which showed. If they were in a Type 10, is it not possible they were Elite traders or explorers?

Personally I think it should be your lowest rank displayed on HUDs. That might make CQCC a bit more popular <grin>

Eh...maybe. I was Elite in Exploration when I first went to Jameson. Anyone scanning me would have seen "Competent" as that was my combat rating at the time. He could legitimately be in the same situation I was in.

But - and this is what gave me pause - he could have been a Road to Riches newbie who had only been in game less than a few days and was legitimately lodged in the toast rack with an NPC Beluga that had just been schwacked by the stations guns...when lo and behold (from his point of view) he manages to wriggle free only to be griefed by some murder hobo in a tanked up Cutter.

Perspectives being what they are all...

Fair enough.

You're not a griefer in my book. Griefers kill without any specific purpose, only to harm others. You had a reason. There is a small chance you may have mis-judged the situation, but that still won't make you a griefer.

This whole episode reminds me of my first (and only, so far) PvP kill. It involved a lot more stupidity on my end, though. Shame the thread seems to have vanished.

Great fan of Brave Sir Robin myself, I did not shoot any other CMDR, not to mention kill one, yet. But now I understand much better what you are talking about and that blowing up other players can be quite appealing, because last weekend for the first time I had that itch to do just that. Here's what happened:

I was doing evac missions at Metcalf Station in HIP 44811 system when I noticed a CMDR in a Type-6, who was also flying into the burning station. Polite as I am trying to be most of the time, I texted 'o7' but didn't get any reaction. OK, I thought, maybe he's to busy to answer and followed my own routine picking up refugees and deliver them to the rescue-ship. The next time I approached the station, the T-6 was back there, too. Again 'o7', again nothing in return.
Hmmm.

These events repeated about 2 more times, then I signaled to him:
'Hello CMDR, maybe you're new and nobody told you, but not returning greetings can be considered rude by some CMDRs. o7'.
And again, no answer.

'You've been warned', I thought, 'next time you enter the station, there is going to be a big bad-tempered me waiting for you outside' and the next time I saw him enter the station, I placed my ship in front of the slot just outside the no-fire-zone, grimly determined to teach him a lesson. Scanning him while he was inside the station, I already had made sure I was not going to open fire on an unarmed man, so not being sportsmanlike seemed not to be very much of an issue. It still felt unfair, the guy was mostly harmless in a T-6 and my Python is properly engineered, but then again draining his shields should be enough to make a point. If he runs I'll retract hardpoints and let him go, if he is stupid enough to return fire: Hasta la vista, Baby.

These were the things running through my mind while I was waiting for him.

And then he vanished from my scanner. Me stupid idiot hadn't thought of the heatsink he certainly would eject when leaving the burning station. When I realized that and managed to reacquire him, he already had gained a distance of more than 5km, powering up his FSD. Putting all pips to engines and boosting I tried to close the gap, but it was already to late and he waked out of sight. That was the last time I saw him.

Griefing seems more difficult than I thought.

Lucky barsteward.
