I learned something about the Hauler today. [SHIELDS]

It is basically pointless to have anything bigger than a Size 1A shield generator on this ship.

Both Coriolis and ED Shipyard are showing the 1A to generate 82.5mj shields, and the 3A giving 85mj,just 2.5mj more. Is this a known quirk of the ship? Are the ship building sites bugged? (Both show the same stats')

Thought I'd share.

Probably something to do with efficiency, weight an power?. Heat maybe too i dont really check all the numbers when im outfitting.

Although you would think it would be higher, hmm curious.

I found this after discussing shield strength on the PS4 board. I was showing how despite being heavier in every regard, the Courier has a much higher shield strength with a 1A than a Hauler with an identical shield generator.

Each ship has a hidden 'shield modifier' which multiplies the shield generator's output with a certain amount.

As I thought. With it being hidden, of course, I couldn't know for sure.

I sure hope this is a bug. Looking at edshipyard it shows the 2A and the 3A shield generator both giving only 85 MJ, which can't be right as the min/optimal/max mass stats change between the 2A and 3A.
I know there were several studies that did curve fits to find a formula for determining shield strength and that shield strength depended on shield optimal hull mass, ship hull mass, the shield multipliers that are based on the shield generator rating (E to A), and a ship shield constant which is determined by the ship type. The Developers even commented on the formula on the following thread https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...hields-to-my-Cobra-It-tells-me-it-s-too-heavy

So because of this there should be an increase in shield strength when shield optimal mass increases but edshipyard is not showing a difference between the 2A and 3A shield generators on the hauler.

This is very interesting. I hope jgm or someone with more knowledge than me can chime in. It doesn't "seem" right, but perhaps it is.

Sorry to the original poster as I have forgotten your name.

Shields for all ships. If I remember correctly the highlighted is recommended.

Hauler and the shields with 1A distributor 4 pips to sys

1A = 83mj, recover 41 sec, recharge 41 sec
Broken Regeneration Rate 1,6/sec
2A = 85mj, recover 42 sec, recherge 42 sec
Broken Regeneration rate 1,6/sec
3A = 85mj, recover 38 sec, recharge 42 sec
Broken Regeneration Rate 1,9/sec

The different classes have also different broken regeneration rates!
