I Like Engineering, Except for One Thing.

Flying around applying Experimental Effects. Lol

I've just more or less finished engineering my new PvP Challenger (converted mostly from AX), but it required a whole new set of weapons, and some shield and hull tweaks, as well as a few core module specials I'd missed.

Most of this was done from the comfort of my home station, and 2 nearby engineers, yay!
But now I basically need to visit nearly every single engineer in the bubble to apply all the special effects.
Thank god my drives already have drag applied. Lol

FD, out of pure laziness, I'd like a single engineer that can G1 everything, ideally somewhere in federation space.
Just so I can go there for specials. Lol

:p

Okay, I have to admit I wanted to post some snarky comment about lazy players, but to be honest, now that I think about it, a kind of a "noob engineer" isn't an entirely bad idea

Farseer fills that role pretty well, if I'm building another ship I'll usually pop over there first to apply several special effects then usually only a couple of other engineers to get the rest (depending on the ship). I usually use pinned blueprints to do the actual engineering unless I'm making something more specialised.

I think if you want the best gear you should be prepared to put the effort in.

Having a n00b G1 engineer with more modules also makes sense for actual n00bs - as the first layer of engineers has some quite challenging unlocks (especially the Farseer MA, unless you use out of game resources). You could even start with one unlocked so people can get used to how they work.

Not sure I'd put them all in one G1 engineer, but maybe have like Colonia has - one for Weps, one for Core (but only G1).

Currently trying out a stealth mamba build and the combination of weird engineering options and short jump range is making things take a while :)

"I'm too lazy to chase all the power juice, gimme more power juice easily."

I sense a bit of addiction to the power creep. Looks like a state shortly before oversaturation, too.

There already is an engineer who can do everything unfortunately they are on Raxxla and only Commander Thrust has the location.

If they did do a n00b engineer they would probably be in the Pilots Federation starter systems.

If I build a short jump ranged ship I try to engineer the armour first while the ship can still jump then park it and fly the modules I want for it around in a suitable ship that has a decent jump range. Not sure that it’s quicker but it feels less frustrating.

I'd like to be able to transport modules as cargo, and get them engineered without actually having them fitted, yes you can buy and ship them but it's not the same.

For shield boosters, as an example, put all of them that can't fit onto your ship into your module storage. Fly to the engineer. Engineer the modules, pay the necessary cost to ship the modules over to the engineer's location, after which you engineer them as well.

I did this (a one-time thing) for shield boosters & HRPs. I engineered them to G1 at the engineer & applied various specials then had them shipped back to my main base. When I buy a new ship I pick a few from my module storage & upgrade them, or use ones already upgraded from ships I have since sold.

I suggested a similar thing myself, after coming back from Colonia.

In Colonia there's the 4 engineers who're all within around 40Ly of each other so you just build your ship, do the remote engineering and then it's a quick trolley-dash around them all to get the XFX's applied.
In the bubble, it's about 400Ly between the two most distant engineers.

Maybe FDev could pick 4 engineers (perhaps one each in Fed, Imp, Alliance and Independant territories?) and divide up all the G1 mod's between them?

That's a good idea.

You could have a "core", "hardpoint", "utilities", and "internals" G1 Engineers for every modification. (y)

I wouldn't mind a G1 jack of all trades apprentice engineer.
As it stands now, i usually spend an entire evening visiting engineers for experimentals - and this with an optimized route to apply most effects while visiting as few engineers as possible.

Which reminds me... FDev should do something about Col Dekker... such an useless sod.
He's the only one still lvl4 and i dont think i've visited him again after the first mandatory visit.

Farseer was the first one I unlocked. I was quite disappointed to see the limited range of mods most engineers offer in comparison.

i can relate, i like engineers except for everything. :D

but if we keep adding crutches to it, who knows, maybe some day we reach a point in absurdity where we finally realize it wasn't a good idea in the first place.

so yeah, let's have noobgineers, of course!
