I like it in here

This sub forum is like the quiet carriage on a train.
Peace and quiet and a general removal from the rigours of General Discussion.

Polite informed and generally intelligent.
People even capitalize and use punctuation.

No raging/threatening/condescension.

At worst I've seen people give the forum equivalent of a "slightly screwy look".
In the cases of extreme anger there has been the forum equivalent of "pushing one's glasses up ones nose whilst also giving a screwy look"

Part of me thinks that LCD/LED flat panels are bad and they mess with your head and do bad things to your attitude.
The other part of me realises that most of us here are middle aged with enough disposable income to afford DK2's, GTX9XX GPU's and HOTAS's and stuff.

This is raising my glass (of port) to one and all and lets keep it rather British around here.

VR is one of the areas that FD have pretty much gotten perfect. Other than limits due to the DK2 hardware itself it is hard imo to see how they could have made it better (other than changes to fit the hardware, but given the hardware will be obsolete soon I do not think many expect that).

IF however VR suddenly stopped working and with no end in sight to getting it fixed, I suspect the mood would sour quickly ;).

Agree, cool place around :)

What I can't stand, is when you found an interesting thread, E.g. in the General Discussion Thread, which was posted few minutes or few hours ago, with an interesting topic, and you would like to add your voice and opinion, and you realize they is already 1723,12 pages of comments behind OP post. I don't know for you but I like to read all post before adding my voices, and sawing so much pages to read, I just give up (lazy me). I understand lot of people mean lot of voices off course, it's just...pfffiiiuuuu exhausting! ;)

Due also to posting rate, here it's a peaceful place, with Gentlemen, where you can read all other opinion before posting yours ;)

Well said Spam, there truly is some loose nuts & bolts flying around in those other sub forums.

It's certainly easier on the eyes in here.

Yes, I like it too here. All information you need for setting up your DK2 for ED and many friendly and helpful people which will guide you with experience at every tweak you're planning. Just ask or it has been already.
Even if your grammar is not perfect (this not my native language).

And yes, the most people here seem to be 'middle aged' (thx, very politically correct :)). Seems to be the target-group for interesting new high-tech toys (as my wife would call them).

Have fun and fly save!

The thing I like about the VR forum are the 'reactions'.......

If you voice an opinion or something you feel strongly about, posters don't try and change how you feel about something (which is impossible BTW). They are your feelings after all....

Another welcome thing for me is the absence of fan boys or girls! Just VR nutters!

It is a great place! :D

Nosh

I must say this brought about quite a chuckle..

Raises glass*

Indeed sir. Your highly amusing assessment of the vibe in this area is bang on the money I must say.

Cheers!

indeed but your rose tinted specs may be filling in a lot of blanks. I liked frontier on my amiga but even on my A1200 the framerate was......... acceptable. Personally I found it bordering on unplayable on my trusty A500. (though admittedly better than wing commander... that should not have even been listed as compatible on the A500 imo) ****

if you like ED then imo your 1st job should be gettign a hotas (flight stick)..... Thrustmaster do a decent enough one to wet your whistle for around the £40 mark.

*****The original elite ran fine - but you could only aquire 1 other ship than the cobra in that game & it only came on 1 disk so I am assuming you mean frontier!**

The reason we appear warm and friendly here is how we welcome newcomers to this thread. The reason for me is that I love hearing about people trying the Rift for the first time. It kind of makes me feel a little envious that I can never try that experience for the first time ever again. I guess that's why I hang on to every newcomer's word. And why whenever I get visitors I always say "Here! Stick your head in this bucket of electronics and tell me what you think."

I seem to be getting less and less visitors these days...

I have also owned ps3 I am only interested in game play, great graphics and crap gameplay bores me,simple games like sid meirs colonisation, which everytime you play is different worth more in weight of gold than some, mega graphic banksy piece of crap art game, only thing seem be interested in is taking shots at each other ,soon discovered playing online gran turismo, the cars that went faster had better connections, love gran turismo ,but saying if got right gear to play, still uneven:) btw my amigo500 frontier elite had many ships, wow never played it have you muppett lol)

Frontier was ELITE 2 and this is what I found to have a poor framerate on my Amiga A500. Maybe your Mexican variant ran it better?

Elite you could fly mainly 1 ship, 2 if you consider the constrictor mission but to all intents and purposes it was the Cobra and that is it!.

either way tho..... nice friendly response. Thanks!. :p

I think the atmosphere here is because we all share a common experience. Unlike those folks over the other forums, we've actually all experienced what it's like to sit in a Sidewinder (at the very least) and look out at a huge bulk of a Coriolis station tumbling in the void suspended above the jewel like surface of an Earth like world.

Yes there are game balance issues. Yes there isn't enough to to do. Yes Powerplay is just more grind. BUT we all appreciate how none of this matters when you can have a fun evening just flying around an Orbis station taking in the sights.

<raises glass> Cheers !

I too enjoy this section of the Elite forums the best as well; we are surrounded by grascious people in here.

I think it has to do with 'ownership'.

Obviously, we have all invested a good deal of money, time and hope into this game and our VR experience. It provides us with a sense of ownership and pride of ownership goes along with that.

Also, there's very little discussion in here about game play mechincs and the development roadmap, so what's there to argue about? We all want the same thing: An Awesome VR experience.

The only arguments I've witnessed are those amongst the GPU fanboys.

/mood soured.

On topic. It's a lovely forum for now... the lack of E:D in the Oculus report of 'supported games from E3 is worrying...
