I lost E V E R Y T H I N G

Umm am i missing something or when you die do you not have the option to deselect individual modules so you can still keep the ship with insurance.

Or... did you really not have any money at all... as in none... no monies :/

I also just lost asp. Just made it combat fitted and tried to take against anaconda. No money för insurance. Lesson learned. But lately i have been mining and spotted invisible asteroids. You can see them only when youre not watching them straight

Good to see the weekly "kicking someone whilst they're down" threads still exist.

No excuse for not having insurance though, especially I've you've been playing long enough to get an asp :)

Sounds like me in minecraft, whenever I have something I want to keep and absolutely must not die my left hand seems to get a mind of its own and sadistically plunges the guy into lava and runs him off cliffs while I struggle to maintain control, like Dr Strangelove.

Mining in an ASP wouldnt be my choice, better to sell up a few components and outfit a cheap cobra cheaply for a few 500k mining runs.

Zzz

With insurance, you should actually factor the cost BEFORE buying the ship. Easy as that. Put 2x rebuy costs in your budget, "i just lost everything" problem solved.

So i had an almost fully upgraded Asp, and wanted to save up some money to cover insurance, so thought I'd do the nice safe option of mining metals.
However when cargo scooping I swooped past an asteroid, and then suddenly clipped to inside the asteroid and my ship destructed completely.
I obviously didn't have enough credits for the insurance as was mining to save for that!
I was left with a free sidewinder and 100,000 credits to my name.
So I've picked up an eagle, but I've lost about a months work :(
I understand that thems the breaks in Elite, but what's annoying is that I had managed to avoid the asteroid, and then suddenly I inside the asteroid.
Such a lame way to lose everything!

When will people learn.... Apparently a couple of posts like this / week does nothing to teach people about the importance of insurance..
In the beginning I felt sorry for you guys who lost all your stuff, now its like... "Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me"...

I did this and was literally just shy of the cost as I can just upgraded the asp for mining by buying a kick ass refinery.

On the upside while working my way back up I managed to take down an NPC Conda and Python in my eagle which made me feel pretty bad ass, and yes I had the money for the insurance before I tried!

Ahh the good old "I lost all of my assets thread." It's a Good learning experience if I could say so myself. I've probably gone bankrupt 6 or 7 times now, but that's besides the point. From here on out you need to think economically, bigger and more expensive does not always mean better. I learned that the hard way. Just please be careful next time eh?

Yup. Amen to that! I will be indeed!

I risked a lot last night, got interdicted, got died, got no insurance, got a Sidewinder and 4k for company, got lesson learnt!

To be fair to OP - he's not really complaining about the insurance mechanic, rather that he got killed the way he did, which appears to be a bug.

If the post had "I hate insurance why the hell does it work the way it does" then fair play, mock away, but in this case a lot of people here are jumping onto the "DON'T FLY WITHOUT INSURANCE" bandwagon for little to no reason.

It was a mistake, granted, but all the being careful in the world can't save you from a bug (point being I don't think he would have made this thread had he been killed in a non bug-related way).
