Newcomer / Intro I lost it all (about 500k cargo of rares) :-)

So last night I managed over the course of a few hours to stock up on a full cargo hold (32T) of rares, and then jumped into a system and my ship overheated, tried to get out of dodge but the % just kept going up and up (think 340% was the highest) as my hull integrity went down and down.

Ended up with no windows - and 5 mins life support.

Almost made it to a station to repair but an interdiction but paid to my attempts to stay alive and I was about 50 Mm away when life support ended (strangely the game just repaired my ship and allowed me to dock, and see everything in my hold but when I logged on this morning I was told that I was dead).

Question is - what can I do when the ships heat is increasing like this. Just heading away from the station did nothing - in the end I jumped out to another system once the hull was breached.

For start best thing is to upgrade your life support to increase the time from 5 mins to 15 mins.

Then what you can do for your Heat problem is getting Heat sinks.
When you heat is rising to quick jump out of hyperdrive and deploy a heat sink.

Upgrade your Life Support to 10 or 25 minutes of O2 for these exact scenarios. Take a heat sink launcher with you to disperse the heat when things get critical. If your heat is critical while in Super Cruise, do an emergency drop so you can use your heat sink. Typically 140 is when you should be worried. 150 is when you will start taking damage and anything more you will get what you already experienced.

ooh - didn't know life support could be upgraded (obvious when you think about it I guess)

I think I've found the issue - I wasn't going to the escape vector (as I just found myself in a simular situation and saw escape vector as a lock option)

Will have tp look into the heatsink\life support upgrade costs

Ah, the dreaded situation where upon arrival to the system, very close proximity to the star drops you out of supercruise and starts to fry the ship.
In such a case, drop a heatsync, all pips to engines, engage supercruise charge, point nose towards exit vector and hold on tight.

If you don't have sync's you can still potentially get away.. just be quick, throttle up, and get that star as far behind you as possible.

Back in the ol' days, last week, I had a similar experience with a brown dwarf. I also learned that they are next to impsosible to scoop and I ended up cooked. If you think interdiction sucks, try ramming a star.

That's why I set my engines to 0 while I'm jumping to an unknown system (or more accurately while it's counting down to the jump). I've jumped to a white dwarf without doing that and immediately began to get cooked, but when I set them to 0 before I get there I exit hyperspace a safe distance away and the 30km speed is inconsequential.

There are probably stars that that won't work with.
