Horizons I lost my Anaconda waaaaaa!!! much butthurt.

I had just over 200mil invested in my anaconda, and am currently sitting top 10% in the lidpar community goal for trading. In a lapse of judgement I entered a combat zone for kicks and giggles, without adequate funds to pay the insurance...... I lost everything. Back to a sidewinder for me...... From an anaconda.... [knocked out]

Just wanted to share my pain. Anyone else have a familiar story to share to help me feel less of an idiot??

I guess you learned the first rule the hard way..

was there no possibility to remove modules of the ship so you could keep it?

Maybe it's a by-product of working in the insurance biz, or maybe it's that my mum always taught me to only buy what I can afford and avoid credit wherever possible... but thankfully I've never suffered as you have (though I have lost ships).

Remember the rules:
  1. Never fly without rebuy
  2. Never start a fight you can't finish (see also rule 1)
  3. Slow down by 0:06
  4. Visit Hutton Orbital at least once, to learn humility and respect
  5. Never argue right of way with a Type-9 (see also rule 1)
  6. Keep your Cobra, you might need it one day (see also rule 1)
  7. Have fun

You have my sympathy.

This rule more than any. Never be a 1 ship CMDR. Before I had all the ships I have now, I always kept at least a Lakon trade ship in dry dock. That way, I could get right back on the trade grind and be back up to speed in no time.

It never came to it though, mostly due to adherence to Rule No 1....though there was a time after I got my Cutter where I allowed myself to violate that rule...I was too impatient. Fortunately, for me, I didn't put it in much danger.

I made a couple of trips in my type 9 without insurance but was fortunate enough not to suffer the penalty! One quick note about Combat Zones - I follow specific procedures when entering a CZ (after many losses)

1) As soon as I enter the zone, pips into engines and boost several times to get away from the action (gives you time to set up)
2) Go to the Galaxy map and select a system close by in case you need to make an emergency exit (avoids the mass lock factor) and make sure the target is not obscured by planet or gas giant - attempting to jump to supercruise in a CZ can be a recipe for disaster (I know - 85Mil in rebuy costs [not all CZ related] at the moment, no risk no reward right?)
3) Select your supporting faction
4) Attack targets from the edge of the zone
5) Taking friends with shield regenerating beams is a plus
6) If you are debating whether or not to leave the zone...leave - while you can - and come back repaired and restocked
7) Always be prepared for targets to appear behind you (situational awareness is critical)
8) Pretend you're in a Star Wars movie - scream and yell at the monitor and have fun!

You can get it back in a few days. Go straight to a high security high intensity resource extraction site. Help the feds to kill the wanted guys. That'll get you 1 million an hour, so iafter three hours, buy a Cobra fitted out for long range hauling. Go down tp Ceos and rank up doing all the Ceos/Sothis data missions. When ranked up, take a couple of the long range hauling missions back to the bubble. By that time, you should have 22 million for an Asp. Go back to Ceos and do the data circuit and take all the long range hauling missions with a ratio of around 1 million per 4 tons. Bring them back to the bubble. Repeat one more time and you should have enough for a Python. 2 or 3 laps should get you your Anaconda, as you make about 50 million per trip. That's about a week of evenings. In fact tests have shown that it takes about 15 playing hours from start if you do it right.

I guess it's too late now, but for anybody else, your rebuy is bumped up when you upgrade modules. when it comes to the rebuy, you can untick the modules to go back to the basic ship. You only need 7.35 million to buy back a basic Anaconda. Your typical 300 million upgraded one would cost 15 million.

What our revolutionary pig said. For some reason this happens to many, and at least you have the backbone to admit its your own fault. What doesnt kill you etc etc...

Well, while making it into a brand new Anaconda from scratch is possible within one day it should no longer be the big issue to start in a sidewinder again. I remember times when you needed a year to get a stock Anaconda but even at that time some cmdrs were not aware of the importance of their insurance which was a lot more crazy indeed.

This is the oldest topic on these Forums.. honestly!
At least you admit to bad judgement in stead of whining
+ rep for that
Back on the horse...

Cheers Cmdr's

It's nice to see an OP that doesn't!

But, my advice, don't just keep your Cobra, keep every ship on the way back up to the Annie. It's easily possible to get into a cargo hauling cobra within 2 hours just mission running, even without decent rep. I did that just recently to prove a point to another CMDR in the same position, he was on the other end of the spectrum too, but eventually came round to our way of thinking. I was out of the sidey in one run, into a Cobra in less than 2 hours, without selling anything and just doing basic upgrades on each ship...

The fall is nowhere near as far when you have a few spares.

Sorry for your loss. I keep 10 rebuys for the most expensive ship I have and generate credits to A-rate the other ships (17 so far). Then a huge rebuy which can happen to the best of us is no big deal. Rule no 1 has always been never fly what you cannot rebuy. Rule no 2 should be don't let complacency and feeling comfortable overrule awareness and letting your guard down.

+1 for taking it on the chin,& not whining or rage quitting.

We've all been there.......

I agree, I have been there on losing a ton of credits.. way to take the hit, picking yourself, dusting off and getting right back too it. [up]

Fly and learn, CMDR, fly and learn.

Lost my Federal Corvette yesterday. Greatest loss was however my Elite crew member, Ivanka, trained from Harmless. Will miss her, bless her soul.

I'm with you! But I am sure that experiences like this are making us loving this game. (To admit, in a kind of foolish way)
Playing this game for loads of hours without any threat and then a beer over and you know why it's called 'dangerous'.(In my cases Elite would be named something like Elite: Darwinism but I get along with it, we'r here to learn).
