So I know I'm going to get hardcore flamed for this, but I want to throw some cold water on this entire affair: Elite isn't a finished game.
It isn't even comparable to the older Elite games @ launch, and it's almost a year old at this point.
Where are the passenger missions for the passenger ships?
Where is the station based storage?
Where are the multi-layer mission lines?
Where are the random encounter missions?
The game is a 3 mile long, 1 inch deep sandbox, and very little depth has been added since the game's inception. Now before I do get the obligatory flame: I LOVE WHAT IS THERE NOW, but Elite: Dangerous is purely a good proof of concept demo. I'm slightly miffed that FD couldn't be bothered to bring it up to (and, tbh, somewhat beyond) what they'd managed to achieve in old Elite games before they decided to pursue the next paid-for entry. I find it a little irksome that they clearly diverted so much in the way of development resources away from fleshing out the base game in favour of pursuing commercial interests.
Don't get me wrong: I'll buy Horizons (probably the expansion pass tbh) and will hope for the best, but I'm still mildly burned by the aforementioned issues.
I can only hope that FD will use some of the funds they get through Horizon sales to more thoroughly flesh out the base game. I love Elite, I enjoy the game thoroughly, but I really do feel like I've been nickle and dimed to one degree or another when I've been asked to pay near enough £100 for pay for (a) a glorified Elite demo and (b) the promise of exciting content at some point in the next 12 months.
