Powerplay I LOVE POWERPLAY!!!

Of all the posts having a go at powerplay I have seen, I wanted to be the odd one out.

Powerplay is somewhat understated in elite, It has very little incorporation into the game at current. although, the idea of it is a very good approach. and those dedicated are rewarded reasonably nicely. perks and special weapons among the best provided. we have to give credit where due. :)

for instance, I hate pirates...hate hate hate pirates. evil scumbags are good for only one thing.... target practice. powerplay just added the scummiest scumbag of the lot, Acheon Delain...undermining his systems gives me great pleasure. and is the source of most of my PP merits. :D

although a majority of the weapons are pretty rubbish and usless, there are a few that are really nice, pack hound probably up there with the best. along with imp hammer, pacifier prismatic shields (hearing the double weight bit though is unsettling) and even the mining lance which apparently has greater range- a real advantage for miners.

Weapons could be better if they came in all sizes...not just one exclusive size. (honestly, who is going to use a class 1 retributor when they have a python or above) A class 4 equivalent wold be great for toasting marshmallows. higher heat generation vs lack of damage. class 1 pack hounds would be nice too...

To incorporate it a bit more I wouldn't mind seeing missions that provide merit as well, that way we aren't stuck to the same boring tasks. an would make obtaining 10000 merits a bit more attainable.

Pay is also a cop-out... a measly 50M for a week...I just made 20M in 1.5 hours in conflict zones. maybe that could be bumped up a bit

otherwise I do enjoy Powerplay as a nice side activity. you can all hate me later for being the odd one out, but hey, someone had to do it :D

Wishing you Happy Flying CMDRs!!:)

Powerplay is like a small kitten. Its cute, it brings you joy but also scratches you and poos on the carpet. I love it too having played from the start, but sometimes I really want to smack it one for being so almost good (Powerplay, not the kitten).

PP should have been between all 3 major factions only with the ability to side with one faction and then have in-ranks.

This would encourage war based PvP which is needed.

Archon Power Play in no way involves piracy of any kind. So no, you don't love PP.

BTW, in open and which system?

nice side activity

Side activity? I must be doing something wrong!

Even when I started off, all keen and enthusiastic, working all my in-game hours (averaging four to six a week, sometimes eight to ten or so if I get a good weekend session in once a month) to build up merits; it was a full time job! When I came back off a 2-week vacation to find my balance almost completely depleted after all my efforts, I nearly cried.

That's when I kinda gave up.

Have they changed something in 2.3 to make PP a "nice side activity" or does everyone else have much more game-time than me?

Than 4-6 hours per week? Yes, rather a lot of people have more time than you. I found myself on the low end of heavy haulers at 2-3 hours/night.
Undoubtedly there's a certain minimum time committed to maintain any given goal. R5 took 1-2 nights/week. If it's taking all your game time, then yes that's been a popular reason not to do it.

Probably set their sights lower. When I did pp I aimed at rank 3, which was super-easy to maintain.

Oh, poor OP.

Starts a positive PP thread only to see the well-known opinion of the community at large to come down on it.

I agree, the rewards look nice...I'd def like a prismatic and imperial hammer but it is locked up behind an activity that encourages more grind over diversity. I'm a diversity player and just can't stomach doing the same thing for more than 1 session of playing. Especially when those activities are just copies of other activities already present in the the game.

On the positive end, I do like how Powerplay changes up the rules of systems which adds some variety on the borders between powers.

It depends if you need to grind to rank5 or not. It's absolutly possible to play powerplay with rank3 or rank4. There is no need for the maximum grind. If you play powerplay pledged with an eye for your power, helping it's homesystems keeping favorable governments, doing some fortifications on the way if you happen to be at the HQ or some control system, and looking to help with preparation and expansion when having time and feeling like it - it's a nice side-activity. No one is forced to grind to rank5 to take part in powerplay and be of use and to have fun with it and to profit with gadgets and salary. 5 millions per week is also a nice payout for not all to much effort.

Getting to rank4 might take about a maximum of 7 game hours if you want to reach it in one week. I take a low assumption of 200 merits per hour, that can easyly be obtained by undermining or opposing in expansions. By hauling it would assume a player will have reached rank3 already and will have a commodity allotment of 20 pp-commodities / 30 minutes so it's 60 merits per hour that's a bit slow. But if you are all about hauling well, you might need a lot of patience anyway. And there is the possiblity to fast-track so you can invest your 5.000.000 cr salary of level 4 into pp-alotments and buy 500 pp commodities straight away giving you 500 merits upon delivery.

Maintaining rank4 is much easyer. You will need about 750 merits a week. This will take not longer then three hours of game time from you per week. Not a biggie at all.

Posts like this really confuse me.

You are saying you want your weekly rating to carry forth into perpetuity, so once you get to 1500 merits and get rating 4 that week, you get a weekly 5 million cr from then on for doing nothing for that power?
Better yet, you could do 1000 merits per week, for 10 weeks, get to rating 5, then get 50 million cr per week from then on for doing nothing.

It always sounds the same to me as someone saying "I got into the top 50% in the previous weeks community goal, but this week I did nothing, and I've been pushed out of the top 100% and got no rewards"

As for the non cash rewards, everyone gets their power bonus at rating 2, which is 100 merits, and if you are lucky enough to have your power in the top 3, this bonus is enhanced for all the players.
I don't think that's many merits for the power to require for you to do per week to get their power bonus, particularly since many of these power bonuses are worthless, but maybe once you attain rating 2 you could be stopped from slipping back to rating 1?

There are no Ranks in PP, maybe there should be, like the Federation and Imperial Navy ranks, at the moment all you have is a weeks pledged counter, maybe they could add a title for every 10 weeks pledged to a power, with the "Relentless Grinder" rank for anyone with 100 weeks service?

Only slack-jawed Mahon CMDR's like Powerplay!

:D

Man, you caught me red handed haha!!! :D

yeah I love the Alliance, Fed second and Imp last (slavery doesn't sit well with me)...kind of a bit sad that the others have 2 or more powers and Alliance has just one, with Rubbish perks and weapon...

the Alliance is somewhat the closest thing to the rebels in Star Wars, hence why I like it :)

Really wish they had their own navy though.... perhaps the Cobra MK4 could be added to that? (bout time players who missed out have a chance eh?) :D

Ermagerd the drama...
First they get a useless unique module and then a useless ship to put it on.
I can feel Steven and Vectron's rage at that.
