I love this forum...

Its full of crazies, knuckleheads, nice people, evil people, geeks, experts and noobs. I feel practically normal. :D

I think the average age is in the late fourties. Being in my early 50's, its nice not being an outlier on the bell curve for a change.

I think normality of this place is related to the fact that people actually finish their sentences....

....even if that takes more than usual :D

Snap..

I'm in my mid fifties and don't care, feels pretty sane this forum, even though its full of insane people, me included..:D

There's a sort of calming sanity, when everyone is regressing back to childhood days.
When our only spaceship back then was a model Thunderbird or XL5. Although it was only TB 3 if I remember rightly, for space flight.

Great forum, hope it stays this way.:)

+1 an amazing group of nerds in all it's forms. Even some very rare examples of closet nerds have been spotted in the forum wilds :D

Personally I'm amazed at the amount of talented individuals present. From Dr. Wookie to the EDtrackers guys (of which I just received my new assembled EDtracker, works wonderfully) the amount of knowledge is staggering.

Probably the best entertainment outside of the PB on the web currently.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.

I love your avatar. Always makes me smile. :D

And 'hootmon' reminds me of the Spathi in Star Control 2. heh heh

I do have this forum open on my browser pretty much 24/7.

I really enjoy hanging out here - it's great to see Elite veterans, Kickstarter originals and those new to Elite all chatting. Plus the game is of course great fun, even with my hopeless dog fighting skills :)

It's been a long, long time since I've seen so many mature and civilized human beings on a single forum. Maybe even back in the Usenet days, before the WWW was a thing. Sure, there are ********s, just like in real life. But when called on their on these forums, they generally apologize and/or acknowledge that the replier is right, which is amazing!

There have been some nerd gold moments, and I count myself as king nerd of course so I mean this in the nicest possible way, but the post that is my current favourite is this one :

http://forums.frontier.co.uk/showpost.php?p=552320&postcount=11

It absolutely made my day when I read it, a little nugget of purest nerd offered in the least ostentatious way possible!

There are rather mixed studies on the average age of gamers in general but it does tend to be higher than a lot of people expect. Many of us have simply grown-up playing games or at least grown older (I'm not bothering with the growing up bit).

There is also an increasing gender balance.

Games like Elite coming back will hopefully entice even more of us older players back...

No guarantee it'll improve civility but perhaps the insults will at least be correctly spelt. And more thoughtfully hurtful! ;)

it would appear that most of the mature forumites have a sense of humour and a fun level of sarcasm that everyone of this generation understands.

Kinda dislike the rep system tho....giving neg rep for a non-offesnive opinion you disagree with smacks of censure.

I've actually given rep for people whose opinion I disagree with but they've argued it well or made me think.

I wish more people would stop and do this. You don't have to agree with everything but you should listen...it's easy to be positive about your opinion but learning from the other person; that's maturity.
