Basically I created this thread to show my appreciation for this game, as I scroll the forum post essentially all I see is a lot of whining, the old guys want 1984 back, the new guys want it to play like a console, I think the devs have done a great job staying in the middle. I didn't play in 84 but I am a beta backer and have truly enjoyed the experience, people should understand that aspects of the game that you lament are possibly the aspects others enjoy.
I've traded, bounty hunted, explored, haven't done any mining yet however it's truly a game where you can carve your own path. I'm looking forward to new ships and expansions and bug fixes that Im Sure are being addressed. With that being said thanks for creating an awesome game.

I am in awe at the canvas they have created. The potential is seemingly limitless. The flying and combat overall is great, the sounds and sights are spectacular. That said I do believe there is a lot of work left to be done to flesh things out and achieve a proper balance, but all in all I am very happy so far.

Its a video game forum, just like most video game forums there are going to be a (very) vocal minority of people that aren't happy unless they are miserable, don't let it get to you, it comes with the territory.

More like the old guys saying that the new guys want it to play like a console and the new guys saying that the old guys want it to be 1984 and no one really knows what anyone wants. I agree, it's a great game so far. It needs tweaking a little, but so far so good.

I've been here for a while, and I can guarantee pretty much that none of us "old guys" want 1984 back. I think I speak for many when I say that what we do want is for the essential foundations to be in the game. The lore to be taken into account, and for it to not be a just a walk in the park.

There are so many threads where people are blaming game mechanics for stupid decisions it's crazy, no the game isn't perfect but how can it be? I've crashed into orbitals, got killed with a cargo hold of essentially all my work, got a bounty for accidentally hitting a npc cop while bounty hunting, that's what makes it dangerous lol

we did get 1984 back, but with bonuses.
we get to fly INTO a station! i've been wanting this since '84.
we have an improved galaxy over the frontier version which is bigger than the 8 galaxies from original.
i love the fact you can basically lose loads with some bad decisions, kinda like forgetting to save for 10 jumps in old games.
i can trade, i can bounty hunt, i can explore, i can smuggle and i can pirate depending on my whims.
so i'm happy.

i used to play eve online got told about this game sorted out pc to be able to play it and must say wow game is fooking epic hopefully its gets better and better with fixes coming

I couldn't have said it better myself....whilst the veteran 1984ers like myself have the benefit of retrospect to add to the argument (not to mention the wealth of lore), the 'console generation' for want of a better term never experienced what we are waxing lyrically about....sure computing and games have moved on in some areas but they have also lost some of the magic of that era. With limited resources, game developers had to come up with engaging games with basic to terrible graphics and less memory than the average calculator.....Elite was the cream of the crop, the pioneer of the open world and of so many other games, MMO's etc

If we seem to be moaning or whining, it's because we want to re-experience these things anew in the latest incarnation of the game and further, we want new players to share that experience so if you see an '84er complaining in the forums, please at least try to have an open mind to what they are trying to say....your game experience might just benefit from their 'rose-colored' perspective

Have to agree with the OP, love this game, can drop in and out and play around my rl, no need to try and level specialised gear for specific warzones, pvp, pve ops flashpoints and such, can pace myself, enjoy the ride, enjoy my cobra, save cash to get my Asp, save again as ultimately I want a fer de lance. Enjoys the views, enjoy the suspense of being interdicted and allowing it, only to turn tables and blast the ship to pieces, love it. Free roam space hasn't been done this well since swg arguably and Imo. Looking forward to the updates and advancements. Just been to Sol seen Discovery up close, now heading to Lave. See you in space commanders.
