I made it

I finally got to Lembava after my first expedition -5kLY away from Sol and the trip back was longer- and I'm selling my data.

I didn't get the proper stuff so I've made "only" 1.270.000 credits.

When I finally got to the Golstein Station I was extremely happy, but not even that part, that feeling of success, was the best.

The best... it was... definitely... the dozens and dozens of "Congratulations, CMDR, you have discovered for first time the following systems" messages that I saw while I was selling the data.

That felling is inimitable, I would not change it for no other thing in this game.

Where should I go and what should I do to get around 5-6 millions that I need for the Asp and it's outfits? I have a Cobra so I consider trading (but I prefer smuggling/transportating stuff)

Any suggestions?

Finally I got a Diamonback Explorer for -480000 (my Cobra Mk IIIs value was over 2.000.000). Tomorrow I'll look for a 5A FSD and enough credits to buy all the things I need (over 3mill)

Cobra is a fine exploration vessel as it is, if you can make 1.2 million in it, you can make 10, guaranteed. Go do a big nebula tour, see four or five and come back, take a week out in the black, youll have plenty for an Asp if you want it but really, the cobra is an excellent smuggler, a good explorer and a decent light transport ship, you're in good shape already just keep doing what you enjoy.

The Asp is a nice ship. I really prefer the Cobra though. It's fast, I mean lighting fast, and that is no small thing. The Asp is fine if you're in the black getting first tags, but the Cobra... Well let's just say I wouldn't fly anything else inside the bubble in open.

Also, while the jump range is nice on the Asp, it is not important for making money while exploring. You can make twice the rate of max range Asp jumping by economic jump routing and quick d scanning (only stopping to scan close high value targets). You'll get plenty of first tags that way too even within 600-700ly of the bubble. Made 3 million in about 4 hours last night, not including jumping up a bracket on the Lembava CG.

The Cobra is a remarkable little ship :)

Maybe when the game is released and I don't have to worry about a possible wipe, then I'll start to "collect" exploration ships.

I plan starting that collection with the Cobra and the beautyfull Diamondbakc, bought it and it's the kind of ship I was looking for.

Tomorrow I'll test it with trading and combat (still have to get apropiate outfitting) and then I'll make a nebula tour towards the Formudine Rift using economic routes, then, depending on how the ships goes, I'll head back to the bubble or I'll go coreward, maybe I can make it in time to be the 500 visitor of Sag A* (and one of the first, or even the first, in Xbox One)

The game is in full release now, Alonso...so don't worry about a wipe. As for the DBX....I LOVE mine, although I have a lot of work to do to make it great right now (starting my first real exploration run with a 15kly jump range because I don't have the 5mil for a class A drive :( ).

The thing is I'm an Xbox One Game Preview version user so I will try to don't fill all my objetives untill I'm sure that I won't loose my stuff, I know it's a big "if" and there are a lot of probabilities of not being a wipe, but I prefer not to risk it.

Also I'm still trying to get a word about the synced simulation with PC, if it's not active yet, it means that I'll lose, at least, the "first discovered by" tags in a lot of awesome systems. Although this won't keep me away from exploring.

You can get 20LY of jump range with a 5B (or C, I don't remember) for not much money, I think it was somewhere between 500k and 1.5mil. You can buy it in Lembava

Well you could do the Buckyball run out to Sag A*, then come back via the Neutron fields. I did that in about 4 weeks and sold all the data for around 100m. Then you can afford an Asp ;)

Just done that myself i was out in the neutron field for 4 days, scanned 303 black holes and 103 neutron stars. I made 55mil when i got back

An Asp makes a good rares trader, It's a good way to earn a few million.
If you do a round trip in economic mode you'll go through a lot of unscanned systems and build up a nice number of scans.
You just need to be able to run away from interdictors, and maybe give up some cargo to pirates.
Sometimes I felt like an interstate trucker driving through a lot of country towns, you never know what you'll come across.
Just a thought anyway.

\edit Unless of course you've pledged to a faction in PP, in which case long distance rares trading becomes problematic.

I'm currently on the way to Lembava, honking every system I stop in and scanning the interesting stuff that has already been claimed or, rarely, unclaimed (even found a few snowballs to call my own...its a dirty job, but someone has to scan em LOL). When I get there I'll have to check my balance and then see what kind of hyperdrive I can afford.

Asps...they're probably one of the best all round ships, from what I've seen on youtube (from multiple sources). Good at combat, great at trading and mining (huge cargo bays and capable of taking care of itself when the pirates come knocking), huge jump distance for exploration....the perfect all around package. Its the ship I'm thinking I might get next, although my DBX is going to be a permanent ship in my hanger, and its little brother, the DB Scout, will be bought as a combat ship at some point (bounty hunter possibly, maybe pirate).
