I made it!

Okay, so I realize that a LOT of people have made it, but I finally cruised into Colonia tonight. FSD was at 74%, the paint job was at 16%, I was sweating bullets as I cruised in, but I made it. Sold 64 million worth of cartographer data and earned myself a few days in port. Need to reoutfit my Asp for better jump distances, get an SRV, and figure out my next destination. But hot damn, I made it this far.

Well done. Trust me though, soon that trip will feel like a short hop.

Congrats! Next destination would be Sag A*, I guess, only 10k ly away and it's worth it

Well done! But I am not sure how much serious outfitting you'll be able to do at Colonia.

Congrats CMDR! Now off to Beagle Point ;)

Yeah. You might be able to find an SRV, but outfitting options are few. Virtually no A rated modules and even d rated modules are hard to find.

How was your FSD damaged? You shouldn't use Neutron star boosts unless you have an AFMU on board.
Your FSD can malfunction if it get's below 80% so be sure to stop occasionally and repair the FSD.

I had the AFMU, but not enough ammo for it. I also didn’t have an SRV or a mining laser or any other method to obtain raw materials.

Most of my outfitting would be reducing what I currently have. I’ll be honest...it wasn’t the most well-researched expedition in the history of space flight. I placed too much emphasis on placing the biggest and best of every module, instead of focusing on a practical light weight loadout. Hopefully I’ll be able to boost my jump distances and increase my surviveability odds.

many made it, so what? it is your achievement, congrats - there is always first time for everything

Congrats! I’m guessing you didn’t use the outposts that are on the way? I did made the trip not as long as my goal was simply to reach the next outpost. I believe they’re like 5k apart. It’s nice to land and repair and relax between light years.

On the way back, use the Neutron route plotter thingy.
You'll make > hundreds of millions.

Congrats. Be sure to pop by Sag A* and the Great Annihilator if you're heading back to the bubble.

When you arrive at an unexplored system, do you just honk and move on?
Or do you scan all the bodies in said system?
Neither or Both.
I honk and look to see if there is anything worth scanning, if not I jump out to the next system.
If I see something interesting like a water world, an ELW or an ammonia world, I'll stop to scan those and I might scan some other planets while I'm there if they aren't too far away.

If you scan everything in every system you pass through, you'll never get anywhere in a reasonable time.

You can, in an emergency, shoot at likely looking rocks on the ground planet side and if they break up into smaller chunks scoop them up with your cargo scoop, either while they are in the air or on the ground. Some ships are better at ground scooping than others. It's not that hard to recognise ore bearing rocks, they look different from the regular ones, but it can be done.

Fly safe and glad you made it to Colonia safely. On my first trip there, on the way back to the bubble I did something stupid and ended up travelling over 7kly with 30% hull.

The time is why I asked. Going to Colonia is something I will probably never do.
The other thing is when I had to do that 5000LY run for Palin I was rewarded with ELW and WW when I got home. Problem was, I had no idea I had scanned said worlds.
So how do you know what they are when you first arrive in a system? Does the honk point something out or do you have to eyeball something?

When you honk it scans the system. You then jump into the System Chart and you can see pictures of the planets. You'll soon pick up which ones are ELWs and Water Worlds. Some are not so obvious though.

Edit - This isn't my chart, somone on here made it.

The system map shows pictures of all the planets. You can tell water worlds, ELWs and AWs by looking.
It's easier after some experience.
If you scanned them you should be able to tell since it identifies the planet type in the targeting hud and in the system map after you scan them.

First thing is of course visual. ELW and WW are usually blue or some hue of blue. Next is the radar-visual, most ELW and WW look a certain way in the holo-imager. Lastly, is the sound. This one is the biggest clue and hardest to get but with time you'll hear what Commanders are talking about. Here are some links to help you out:

Visual: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/339546-2-3-exploration-payouts-visual-guide
Holo-Imager: http://i.imgur.com/2A7lZG1.jpg
Sounds: http://www.objectscanner.net/

The last link is great to listen to, you'll hear birds chirping in the background for ELW and almost like water bubbling or swooshing around for EW.
