General / Off-Topic I need a good gaming chair...but not ridiculously priced...

Something that is fairly adjustable, maybe easily modified for a throttle and hotas so I can get it off my desk when it comes time for VR...anyone have any experience with gaming seats?

DXRacer have many racing style chairs, but if you're in the market for those, then you probably already stumbled across them...

Gaming chair, or a computer desk chair?

Kinda for both actually. But more durable then an office chair. My problem is i'm 6'5 240 lbs. So I go through office chairs on a regular basis. ;) Hell maybe I should just grab a seat out of a car and modify it.

I used a car seat, or more specifically a landrover discovery seat, works well, very comfy.

An alternative cheap option is to buy any chair you like and use a laptop cart, or a steering wheel stand.

You can also cut your table and make a circle to be more comfortable :) like my current desk:

You're not going to get a good office chair period without it being ridiculously priced. Stay away from anything that looks even remotely related to gaming, you'll be paying a $100 premium for a mediocre chair.

If you're still young and limber, consider options that don't roll that you'd have to lift your leg or do a little hop to get into. Often 10 times better and half as much money. Only thing I'd tell you to beware is the height if you use a set of pedals. Too low is worse than too high.

You know the more videos I look at the easier its looking to actually make a seat from a car seat.

I basically took an Ikea chair and a shelf. I cut the shelf up so I had 2 squares that were big enough to accept the mounting screws of my HOTAS with a few centimetres of edge, then used C clamps to mount the plates on either arm of the chair. I bounght some dense sponge pads to prevent the clamp gouging holes in the wood.

Works well enough for me, and cost maybe 10 pounds in total.

I was thinking of going to the nearby wreckers and buying a used sports car seat and then setting everything else around that.. But it's a project for the future. Either way, so long as it "feels" good because I also intend to get the Vive (or whatever comes first).
Right now? Office chair with HOTAS on desk. Man do some of those custome setups look nice though.

Maybe this serves as some kind of inspiration. I just made one:

It wasn't hard, and it works very well :)

Nice job on that. Looks pretty damn sturdy.

If I had the cash...

Unfortunately two college tuition bills for my kids puts it out of my reach for a while...

That type of seat would be great when I get the Vive, with how low it sits. Can't wait....though I have to...

High end, very expensive office chair here. Paid about $ 2,500 in the late 90s. I am not a light guy and I do work a lot from home, so the chair sees a lot of use. Still almost like new! So yes, crazy expensive. But outlasted at least 5 cheap chairs and I probably saved more than 2,5k on Chiropractor bills.
