I need credits...

This Sidewinder you start out with, whether you lost all your credits or just begun, really sucks a ton... The laser doesn't even seem to do enough damage within combat sectors, and the cargo you can get won't profit you much until you're over 25K credits... There needs to be a serious rebalance in the way money is handled and how you can make it.

Spent the best half of 4 days just to have my Hauler explode out of nowhere on me with all my cargo, which just happened to be the load I decide to "risk" it without insurance credits left over... How are we supposed to test this game out when I can't seem to get out of the Sidewinder long enough to test it?

The "risk" you took was a genuine "risk." Risks do not always pay off.

I made 10,000 credits in a Sidewinder yesterday in an hour shooting Federal Fighters with fixed lasers. I was then blown up during an interdiction by an AI Eagle which cost me about 10 or 15 minutes income.

I am not complaining as this is how the game works currently. I hope it remains difficult just with increased options as more is added in the latter development stages.

Just be patient and take your time. I like my Elite to be a fancy meal made from scratch as opposed to a microwave dinner.

Just my thoughts. :)

25 hours of gameplay and I'm in a cobra mk3, without firing a single laser.
It took 4/5s of that getting the money together for the Hauler. And the last 1/5 with the hauler.

The start ship Sidewinder is really slow going, maybe it could do with a slight boost to cargo capacity, but I like that it takes a lot of time, the easier it is the less satisfying it is when you get there.

I enjoyed the work and build up. Those people starting with the Cobra have a huge 20 hour or so advantage, boost, head start, short cut, whatever you want to call it. And are missing out of 20 or so hours of gameplay.

I personally think its balanced perfectly.

I know it sounds harsh but it is better to make that mistake now than when it counts. When it does count you'll see the forum filled with people saying they've done exactly that and maybe be thankful you have a bit more experience.

I agree with the guys. Scratching around at the beginning is fun. The first time you can afford an upgrade in the real game will be such a feeling of accomplishment. And which direction to spend that hard earned cash when we'll have lots of ships and equipment to choose from.

Personally I was thinking the Hauler might end up being a little cheaper or improved in some way but it sounds like ste would disagree.

Right now you can try and pocket some free cargo from the extraction site or where they drop weapons and gold (never been myself). That gives you quicker start.

Meh

I just "genuinely" don't like it when I just suddenly explode for no reason, like literally none. I fly out of the gate, everything clear, then boom. I enjoyed the first grind ok, once I got past the first 10K or so... but unless I'm playing alone in the server, it takes ages to make that 10K, and I for one can't keep starting over and over with no way of really saving myself from it except not playing the game... risk is great, but random bugs that cause stations to warp around and destroy your progress REALLY doesn't help the challenge at all...

The Hauler needs to be cheaper by like a factor of 3, like 20K instead... Using only the Sidewinder I was making, at most, 3K per trip, every 5-8 minutes. And I have no problem starting out small, but it takes way too long to move from 1000 cr to 50K cr; 6-8 hours only seems to net me like 5-8K...

Absolutely. You need to have about 24,000 before you are putting the most profitable cargo in the Sidewinder. I was working things out just now and I think that could be about 34 runs. Then you need another 22 or so to get 60,000. It is long road. That's why I think sneaking some questionable cargo from somewhere right at the start before you start trading can pay off.

That is really bad luck with the way to go.

They just need to beef up the hauler and keep the price tag. like a rear weapon or missiles. I grinder my way up form almost nothing to a hauler + 70K or cash. I am actually beginning to like the grifers as they make it almost like blockade running cargo LOL this also give a lot of opportunities to test some tactics :)

I agree with you. I have grinded so many times only to have it all taken away. I had it happen to me just 10 minutes ago. Got to 22000 credits. Bought P. Cells. didn't have enough for the insurance. Came out of hyperspace and....boom. All lost. First major loss was at 120000 credits. Bought a MK3 and kitted it out. Played with it for 5 minutes and decided I wanted to buy an Eagle to try. Lost everything because you don't get credits back in the beta :( Second time, got to try purchasing an MK3 again, and the game glitched, losing everything again. I am ok sending in reports of glitches (I've sent lots) but I do not want to keep grinding for hours and hours to grab a ship and keep losing it. And FD never have given me the credits back (not that they have to) but it would be nice to get my 140000 credits back so I can get my MK3 without the grind...
