I need help plotting courses please.

Hello everyone!
So I'm trying to get to Ochosi from HP 65963. I'm currently parked at Brahe Legacy. I'm still very new and don't really know how to plot courses. I've probably already traveled over 100ly trying to get there because it doesn't let you plot a route there. I figured if I get closer it may let me eventually, but no luck. I'm just going to explore this area for a bit until I get a response!

Thank You!

Your 2 stars don't look very far away. Normally all you have to do is go to the galaxy map and click on the star you want to go to, and click "Plot Route" on the right.

What is the jump range on your ship? If it is too low it may not be able to find a route. Sadly the stock sidewinder has a very low jump range, so this is a relevant problem for new players. You can find your ship jump range by going to the right panel, go to the SHIP tab, then going to the bottom STATISTICS tab. Screenshot attached below:

Thank you Orange. I have a Cobra MK III. It says there that the jump is 9.72 max. Ochosi is only 49.69 LY. I've traveled way further than that so far. So how do I plot to that star though. I can refuel along the way right? How do I get there?

There just don't appear to be any lines connecting to it. I just plotted a course to another star 42 ly away. So it's obviously not about distance.

It may be to do with the size of one or more jumps in the route, i.e. the 42LY route can be achieved with a jump range of 9.72LY but the 49.69LY route cannot.

If there are no lines connecting to it that means there are no stars within 9.72 ly, so the issue is indeed the jump range. You can take as many 9.72 ly jumps as you want, but if the nearest star to your destination is say...10 ly, then you won't be able to go to the system. You can get a better FSD (try a 4C Frame Shift Drive) and that will increase your range, probably enough to get to the star.

Aaaah got it! That makes sense! You're absolutely right. If I zoom out on the map I do see the lines and some of them are too far apart. Okay! Thank you Very Much!!
Glad that it worked out. As you make more money and learn about things like engineering you should try to get a "bubble bus", or a ship with a very high jump range for purposes of jumping around the bubble (human inhabited space). It makes everything easier and you never have to worry about silly things like this.

Hey there, if you've only got 9.72 jump range on a Cobra, you're running close to a stock ship.

You can increase the jump range significantly by replacing some of the internal modules, such as the Frame Shift Drive (FSD), Thrusters, etc.

You want to get an A-rated Frame Shift Drive, and mostly D-rated everything else.

Here's an example to get you started. It has a 25LY jump range. It'll cost you a couple million (mostly for the FSD), but you'll be a much happier CMDR.
