If you want to see one of the new surface features, but don't want to go searching the galaxy for them, I have stumbled across an easy way:
In the tutorial "SRV Training", rotate your ship to the right just slightly less than 180 degrees and there is a field of fumaroles in the distance. They look quite impressive up close. I thought it was a graphics glitch at first when I saw "clouds" on the horizon.
