I notice Horizons runs under 800 runtime....

Horizons works with STEAMVR & .800 runtime BUT....

The game is mirrored pretty much full screen on desktop monitor so there's a lot of judder.

I suppose there's no official support for .800 but nevertheless it didn't run at all prior to Horizons.

If there was some way to disable the full screen desktop mirror image then it might run smoothly....

Hi

Is it 75 hz and just struggling or is it not in low persistence?

I just somehow bodies my pc messing around with sdk and doing another clean install.... If horizons is playable with 0.8 I may just give up .

What is your you?

It's not playable because the judder is too severe but that could have something to do with the monitor mirroring.

I use the runtime switcher so it's easy for me to change between 501 and 800.

The fact that it even runs at all now on 800 shows some improvement.

Which OS, and how are you setting ED to recognize the Rift on 0.8 (direct mode)? On Win 10 64 bit here, and ED does not see another display due to the 0.8 runtime being direct mode only.

Windies 8.1.

I don't have to set anything. I just wanted to test something in Horizons so I thought I'd launch it without runtime 501 (via switcher) and was suprised to see tracking light come on and image on Oculus.

With Elite 1.4 and 800 runtime the Oculus wouldn't come on at all.

If this is true then it is huge news. I have to test this later. Thanks for posting.

I've determined it's working via SteamVR... Problem is the performance is bad. Judder. I have a gtx 680 so performance will be better for those with 900 series but I'm guessing still not viable at this stage.

It's still a big step in the right direction though since we can now say it runs with .800 runtime and direct. I think the issue is that Horizons graphics options seems to be showing my Samsung monitor refresh rate rather than the 75hz Oculus uses.

The game displays on the desktop monitor which would be great if it ran smoothly. With monitor mirroring I can stick oculus on friend or family heads and pilot for them to show them what it's like to fly around the universe.

pretty sure an announcement on full rift support will be imminent and when it is you can thank me.

Fed up of faffing with win 10, 4 reinstalls today due to corrupting my boot drive I put my rift on ebay. it sold in 10 mins.

so dropped off at post office now. its gone, ergo, FD will announce support for it!

This is one of the reasons I didn't allow windows 8 to change to 10.

I want access to DX12 for the future but right now 10 will just bring Oculus problems. Oculus is way more important than windies 10. The only good thing I would say is that selling your Octopus should have given you enough to purchase CV1 outright.

Yeah no intention of upgrading either but got tasty new rig on black Friday and win 7 did not support my SSD. Could not be bothered faffing and was confident I would get around it.

As for price ...... I low balled by over 50 quid I wanted to pull back some cash but at the same time didnt want to rip a budding vr gamer off either

Still, after fees and postage I will clear almost 260. Maybe not a full rift or vive but a chunk of change off one.

Last week they were selling between £350 and £500 on ebay. I should really sell mine now before CV1 but I'd miss it too much. Windows 7 is a pile of cack in my view. Out of Linux, windows 8.0 and windows 7: each installed on an old laptop... Windows 7 was the slowest and got progressively slower over a 6 month period. Linux was a bit better but windows 8 really brought that old laptop to life.

Win7, Dk2-extended mode has never mirrored the game for me. either my main goes black or just shows the desktop. Vr performance has never been better for me than it is in 2.0 beta.

yay, of sorts. It means that even if Frontier can not resolve the problems with Oculus' Directmode and removes the 0.5 support (PLEASE DON'T!) Elite will keep working with the Rift. Sadly, steamVR is incredibly slow on the DK2. The standard "empty" scene of SteamVR, which just shows a white world and a ground, runs at 5-15 fps on my rig (you can test it by clicking on the VR icon in your Steam client). I really hope Steam (and Oculus) get their act together and improve the performance.

There is a trick for getting Half Life 2 to run more smoothly by using the free virtualdesktop.net and starting the game via that. Sadly it didn't help with Elite for me but I noticed when I went to elite graphics settings that it was displaying my monitor's refresh rather than the correct 75hz.

Depends on your system. I'm experiencing zero judder with 0.8 SDK on Horizons with a 980ti and everything completely maxed out except had to drop to 1.0 oversampling (but still have SMAA anti-aliasing on.) Everything is running flawlessly now.

Edited to add: make sure you set your main display to the same settings as your Oculus (1920x1080@75hz) so that you aren't paying a huge penalty for the mirroring since you can't seem to disable it.
