I paid good money for this paint... It's just terrible!!!

Look at those scratch! And look over there... it's completely missing... And check the nose! Even the primer has gone!!
Deep core exploration's got a very high price on this beauty...
AARRGGH!!!! đŸ˜đŸ¤ª

Those gouge marks definitely show you left half the paint behind scraping your way out of the mailslot when you left the station ;)

Of course, if you fly a Clipper or a Cutter, it's imperative to keep the paint job in perfect condition. That's simply the Empire way.

You wouldn't drive a scruffy looking Rolls Royce now would you?

I knew these Frame Shift Drives were not safe.

"Force of Nature" (S07, E09) is the 161st episode of the American science fiction television series Star Trek: The Next Generation. In this episode, a pair of sibling scientists show that warp drive propulsion is harming the very fabric of space -- an implied metaphor for global climate change (which is mentioned explicitly in the episode's final scene).

Didn't the Guardians have a similar idea ?
I seem to recall from their records some of them had objections to some forms of FTL travel.
On topic - I like the weather beaten look. Except on the cutter for some reason.

I know this is going to be an unpopular opinion... but I really hate how worn paint looks and the way it's implemented.

Why does it magically stop wearing away once a certain amount of it scratches off? Why is there more paint missing off my tail end than my front? Why does paint wear on kit parts often look different from the rest of the ship? Is there some strange physics in outer space that makes paint wear off in a symmetrical manner?

I really want an option to just disable paint wear completely.

I think it's meant to simulate wear on leading edges or areas that would most likely wear more than others due to particle abrasion.
I think the paint wear is wonderful. Always seeing ships unmarked no matter how often they're used just seems... fake.
What I'd actually like to see is further damage and wear dependent on hull integrity.
