I pass more of my time outside of Elite thinking about it than actually playing it...

FD have created a huge universe but it they just can't seem to be able to give the us the simple tools we need to appreciate it. Here are three exemples of existing tools that should be ingame right now.

1) Coriolis.io :

The only goal in game so far is to have a multiple ships and upgrade them, change them but yet there is no tool like Coriolis.io that lets you experiment. So I usually spend hours on it before actually going to outfitting and act upon what was really the fun part: comparing, experimenting... with ALL THE PARTS !

2) Eddb.io :

There is nothing like eddb.io ingame. So yet again you go back to your browser to find informations that should be available ingame, that evidently exist somewhere on the server database and are hidden for some reason. For instance when I want to buy a brand new car I just call the dealerships to check availability. I do not go to every dealership in the country one by one.

3) wavescanner.net :

I've just discovered this one thanks to Obsidian Ant and it's absolut gold. Of course it shouldn't be as easy as ticking a box but exploring planets and stoping to calibrate your scanner would be huge !

I'm sure there are lots of other tools I don't know yet but I think you get what I'm saying...

Let me know what you think !

I only have this issue because real life keeps getting in the way of my game time.

As for the rest, I tend not to overthink things, & instead just get on with enjoying the in-game galaxy.

I'd say there are no actual goals in the game over doing what you like to do. You set your goals within what the game is capable of providing.
There is nothing in-game that will say "Congratulations, You have completed the game, here is a list of the development team" so you can't Win as such.
.
You don't 'need' any external sites. They just allow you to get information faster, or optimise your cr/hr. There is absolutely nothing wrong with these and I use them myself occasionally. Others prefer to find their own routes or upgrade components entirely un-aided (I'd be too impatient for this).
.
I believe the design ethos is to provide a universe with minimal information, limited options and just some clues is entirely deliberate. This is why the things you mention are not in-game. It is not because FD are stupid and don't know what the, often fictional, silent majority want.

I agree with @OP, however its a priority what need to be done. I guess that FD would like to do it, but simply done have the time \ resources free to dedicate to the task.

They are actually building a galaxy, and filling it with content is a huge assignment. I'm sure we will get there at some point.

still waiting for cap ships...... would love to have my own carrier cap ship so i dont have to re purpose my corvette whenever im about and can just swap out for a cargo t9 when the community goal is hauling things.

i dont want to outfit at a cap ship i just want a mobile hanger that can carry two large ships or four medium ships or 8 small ships or any combo. would be nice if we could loan these ships out for wing member.

would be cool if it could also be used to repair rearm and refuel.
repair would require it to have scrap stowed.
rearm would have explosives and scrap.

refuel would be obviously fuel but we can transfer from a ship to the mother ship or from the mother ship to the small.

when it jumps into a system it only by the main star no sub jumps.
only the owning player can see it and drop on it and you need to be winged to dock with it if your docked and you get kicked from the wing the ship forcefully ejects you.

You just twisted my words there. As of now the only reward for any activity in the game is credits. And the only thing you can buy with those credits are ships. I'm talking about actual gaming mechanics and reward system. You could play pac-man and tell yourself a story as well.

It is nice to be able to use Coriolis.io when you are not ingame but part of the fun of buying a ship is thinking about it, experimenting and I would rather launch the game and do it there than just do it in browser. And don't tell me that it is by design and cannot be changed. The new outfitting UI is proof of the contrary. The previous one was simply an insult to any UI designer.

Seriously, FD has done an astonishing job but the project just seems too big for them sometimes. It took ages to add a simple bookmark pin on the galaxy map and they advertised it as a full pledged feature of the game !

I said this ages ago, i agree FDEV need to pull all external stuff into ED to make it a more immersive experience.

I have to admit but usually i have very little free time to play the game, but i have a lot of time to lurk the forums when i am on my job. So i think i can fit the bill for the thread title.

Twisting your words was unintentional, but I can see why you say I did.
.
My reward to pursuing my goals and having fun doing them. Credits are definitely required for this, but I don't see them as my 'Reward'.
I played Pac-man, Space-Invaders, Pong etc a lot in the past. All of them were highly repetitive and gave little in terms of game reward, but I still liked playing them.
.
I never said things can't change as that is ridiculous, I just voiced my opinion on what I believe they are doing. This opinion is no more/or less valid than yours.
.
I also spend a large amount of time playing with builds in Coriolis and have around 50 saved builds there but TBH, I've never once thought 'I wish this was an in-game tool' so, again, in my opinion, we don't 'need' these tools in the game. On Other features though I fully agree with you and thought the bookmarks were a great improvement.

With respect i strongly disagree with your last point. Providing limited information in a game like elite is not a good idea. Basic things like what he mentioned above should be in game as at least an option. Saying they left it out on purpose is highly unlkely. More a case of resource management and time issues. My problem is we are seeing an increaseing amount of disscOnnect between what FD are implementing (Powerplay, CQC,RNG etc) and what we the fan base actually want ( basic functions like mentioned above, better social framework, larger wings, better instancing, better performance)
