...but before I talk about my impressions of the game I have to ask if it's normal to have to wait for 45 minutes to play the barrier reef? That's how long it took for me to "obtain land rights", and there's nothing wrong with my network as everything else loads at normal speed. Is this the price you pay for not paying?

The land rights do take varying times to unlock. You can use gems to hurry the wait along.

Yeah, but you have to pay to get gems, right?

You can earn gems by completing sandbox challenges and yes, you can buy them as well.
