I propose a sticky, living, online "game manual/guide" thread. The first post should be the official game guide
And from there, data approved as accurate would continue to be added, filling in all the annoying little knowledge gaps and making revisions on-the-fly as new builds/patches go live. Not just a "here's how you do this" type manual but a guide aimed at those who have difficulty with the open-sandbox, no-end-game nature of the game. A guide for those who need a single, written guide to tell them how to do things and also explains why the game works the way it does. The first post would be the "official" player guide and would expand from there. i.e.:
I have a ship and 1000 credits. What now?
Common pitfalls (Did you check those cargo rack sizes?)
Detailed instructions for use of (shipyard, outfitting, scanners, limpets, cameras, engineers, etc.) all those things that are simply not intuitive and not well explained.
Best practices in game strategies, ship outfitting, combat, mining, engineers, explorations, etc.
Detailed explanations, incorporating game-lore, wherever possible and applicable.
IMO one of the biggest and most immersion-breaking problems for newer players is the time spent outside the game simply finding data on the basics, not necessarily the very basic what and the how (but that, too), but also the why that explains the what and the how and all in one place. There is a lot of available data but it is scattered. Many developers do not want to develop & print a manual simply due to cost and size (ever seen the F-16 Fighting Falcon manuals?) so a player-created, free, persistent, online user-guide might be just what the doctor ordered.
