Well after getting the graphics working (with odysee grahphicsconfig) i somehow found myself playing odysee for a few hours. This is my first quit post / review for any game. I think i want to do one because of the thousands of hours clocked up in elite proper.
Im really shocked its come to this.
Until they fix the graphics for space i'm done. Everything's just not held together well enough in concept and implementation. At least you get to fly your ships and make your credit counter go up in space forever. What do you do with your fully upgraded suits when they're done?
The slight devious expression david braben has had regarding odysee is perfectly explainable now. Its a bit damning to his reputation and frontier they knew this was it and released it anyway. It was much more hopeful when i couldn't get playable fps... anyways. Appauling as it is, time to step away until the first major point release. /shakes head
Im really shocked its come to this.
- I learned how to use the system and galaxy maps. The first impression is absolute horror, but then it just ends on plainly bad design. Just bad. You can learn your way to one notch less negative by learning it for a bit. Everything from needing to zoom into menus then planets then other menus to see basic info. The list of pois being in reverse order from the star. What does the pulsing white circle do? Its never ontop of the body you're clicking in either maps. Why can't you turn off the grid in the system map? Why are the images sometimes broken and sometimes not?
- Space is ruined. The spaceflight game is ruined because of it, there are no options, that's how it is.
- The new planet tech looks absolutely terrible unless you're on the surface. Its now become typical frontier design of only building for the latest feature, not considering and breaking the existing features. It does look good on the surface.
- The new odysee content is pointless. Its only feature is it exists. Its nothing but a new mission board and a new materials upgrade / engineering grind. Is this all they could produce? Not a drop of context to explain it. Even the tutorial closes down any context it suggested. I think the most damning realisation was when the existing game still only exists from your cockpit. Not even a terminal with a ship station services in the station to pretend they're connected? Overall, the offering generates a feeling of bare and sad.
