Well, I just read reviews, watched videos and then it was fairly apparent. Besides it's common among any similar products. How long does said company take to up the QA process. How long will a lesser model last before the better model is, better. What kind of deal is available to you, now. How likely are you to recoup some of assets used when a switch is in order.
I got a 52-pro for a snazzy price. I barely use the throttle. Considering the nicest thing about the 55 is...the throttle you see my reasoning. I also take care of stuff and am decent with electronics/mechanical stuff. I'll find a buyer for my x52-pro when something better comes along at an appropriate price.
I would have bought a Warthog if it had twist.
The 52 pro is a tad loose stick wise. But it is accurate and very smooth. Noticed a positive difference immediately. 2 hats which are fairly usable, I have smaller hands but the stick isn't too big. I haven't fiddled with the modes or even programmed the thing. I plugged it in, drivers downloaded, calibrated it, open elite, map keys, done. I've heard of ppl with software problems but  got 99 and that ain't one. Maybe I'm missing out on something but it works for me. It's construction is not what I would consider rugged, but it doesn't feel delicate however I am a slender fellow with a light touch (5'8"ish 155lbs).
The throttle. IMO they dropped the ball. There simply aren't buttons where you would think there should be. Smooth though but with a weird "lock", thing going on at the top and bottom of the range respectively. IMO the turny thingies they have are useless and not very intuitive. Basically like 2 or 3 ok buttons. Good thing I am not huge into the throttle and it tucks in my desk snugly while still being accessible. It's actually a retractable throttle. I fly space ships u kno
I use a T1600 for left when piloting little stuff, throttle for boats. If you are unsure about hotas setups the T1600 would probably be my nomination for best bang/buck. 60 ish with hall sensors and sturdy construction. No brainer. I mean voice attack pretty much obviates throttles unless dogfight, which I do hence a joystick for my thrusts. The pelvic kind....!!!
I dunno, I don't regret my Pro but I often buy stuff just to see if I like it. Frankly until some issues are worked out and I get better at scripting I'll lightly use my X52-Pro until I get a dual T1600 setup off the ground. But I am weird everyone says so.
