Newcomer / Intro I saw my first CME - what other amazing moments are there?

I don't know if I still count as a newcomer; I've been playing for a year, but I didn't play between mid january and this week so...

Anyway, I'm in the midst of my first REAL long distance journey, out to colonia. I'm currently docked at Gagarin Gate, so still two legs ahead of me. I have made MANY first discoveries along the way and seen some wonderful things, but I was in awe the other day when I witnessed a coronal mass ejection right in front of me! I'm sure many will scoff as I gather these are fairly regular occurrences, but it still blew me away that such attention to detail has been added by the developers.

I know it's "cool" to moan about the game on the forum, but honestly I can't find anything to moan about - I mean I would like it if there were things to find on the rocky bodies I land on other than rocks, I guess (I'm aware of the ruins closer to home, but I'm thinking of crashed ships, messages left by explorers in the middle of nowhere etc etc), but I also appreciate that this isn't "Starflight" and it's supposed to be realistic, so I can't really complain there. I'm STILL loving it. I recently discovered Sidewider Radio, which is pretty fun to listen to while I travel, but most of my journey thus far has been spent listening to the audiobook of "His Dark MAterials" by Philip Pullman. Christmas is traditionally a bad time of year and I'm having a lot of difficulty at work right now, so I find travelling into the unknown while listening to stories and making my own discoveries to be very helpful. Elite Therapy if you will.

Of course as always, I'm blogging my antics (link in my signature, plenty of screenshots).

Anyone else have stories to share about things they've seen in game which made them say "woah"? I mean, seeing my first White Dwarf and Neutron Star were both great experiences, I'd love to hear from others. The CME was something that STILL amazed me even when I thought I'd seen a lot of what the game had to show me. So I guess I'd like to hear from newbies and those seasoned vets lurking on this forum. I'm often taken aback by the insides of nebulae.

Such an extraordinary sight.

The first time I visited a Thargoid abandoned base was by myself, and I did it at night. It was an incredibly eerie experience making my way to the entrance with these strange silhouettes jutting out of the landscape

Not really a whoah moment, more creeped me out in Virtual reality being next to these weird giant pumpkin fungus growths out near California, decided to head straight back to the ship. There are also trees which look like brains, never come across any thankfully.

Woah! Are those naturally ocurring? Did you just stumble across them? All I've ever found on planets' surfaces has been rocks and pretty views of the sky. Any tips for finding this sort of stuff?

They are naturally occurring, along with other weird stuff I'd prefer to stay away from :D Also Geysers and volcanic activity. The site I am at is well known, the alliance constructed a landable research base next to this site - Mahon research Base (HIP 18077)

Best to check out the explorer forum for tips. I'm just on a deep space mining trip out in California, stopped here for repairs.

I still enjoy seeing CMEs, I remember the first time I saw one that was big enough to fly through as I was fuel scooping

I've documented a few of my Exploration trips on the forum, from the very first one that I set out on the first day of Gamma

I've got far too many photos to possibly share, but the first time I dropped a few thousand Ly below the Galactic Plane and the first Thargoid crash site I saw are a couple of good ones

The thing that probably made me woah the most was on my way to Colonia one time.

I think that they actually created the California Nebula ;)
