I should have backed up my holo me settings. Thread for those missing their character :(

I knew beta gets wiped.... and i knew my holo me was destined for deletion.

but it was a joke character who i spent a few hrs deliberately making as ugly as i could... and he ended up looking rather like herr lipp from the league of gentlemen

I didnt take images of the settings because as i said it was a throw away creation.... little did i know how attached i would get to him, and now, try as i might i just cant make him again.

I feel like Tenacious D in the song "Tribute".

anyone else feeling the loss of their beta person?

(I may be embellishing my sense of loss slightly for light hearted banter)

my (minor) disappointment with the toon creator is that it is actually very rigid. the system is fine, the quality is impressive, but other than tweak eyes, nose, ears and mouth you have a really tiny set of faces to work with.

so i made my badass femme fatale (like always), dressed her in black (like my ships), admired her for a minute, then slapped a helm on her head (opaque black) and selected 'always on'. and i think that concludes my ed holo-me experience for this lifetime, less than an hour.

now i get sometimes a giggle when i look at the cmdr's avatars in the comms panel: they all look like psychedelic crap due to my hud color settings. all well! :D

+rep for the Tribute reference.

I copied all my settings in beta for each attempt, but (as I feared) they changed the meaning of the settings just enough so it's not the same as beta anyway. Still close enough and luckily, I still like the result just as much.

more base facial features would be cool, but maybe more will come in time.

i think the "devs" avatars show how powerful they are as they were kind of recognisable (in so far as police criminal sketch drawings are sometimes recognisable). i am guessing the art guys helped with them however, and as i am talentless at that sort of thing, mine will never look like me - hence making my beta one as silly as i can.

forward planning is always good.

incidently... somewhere server side surely our avatars are just a simple settings file of numbers... i just dont get why FD wont let us import / export our creations to a simple text file ... that way i can find one i like, keep him safe and then not worry about losing him if i want to experiment.
