I simply did not understand the 7-day bounty thingy - Please help

Hi,

I was happy to see that a new dev update has been posted yesterday. Overall it looks great but there is one thing I did not understand. I hope someone will help me being less confused.

Active bounties are changing so that they are issued by minor factions only, even for systems owned by one of the three major factions. You won’t be able to pay these bounties for seven days.

OK so far so good. Now when a player has a bounty on his head he cannot simply boost away and go dock to the closest outpost to clear that bounty. He has to play with that active bounty for 7 days if I understood correctly.

Now however:

If an active bounty is not claimed or made dormant within seven days then it will be cleared.

So here I am confused: the first quotes requires a player to wait 7 days before paying off the bounty on his head if he wishes to do so, while the second quotes states that a bounty will be cleared after 7 days if not claimed or made dormant. So does that mean that players won't be able to pay off their bounty since it will be cleared after 7 days anyway (which is also the time required before trying to pay off said bounty)? Obviously it cannot, so what am I missing?

Technically you will never be able to pay "your bounty". You will only be able to pay fines. Whenever a bounty (either active or dormant) expires, it will turn into a legacy fine, associated with a certain jurisdiction. You can pay off this legacy fine in that jurisdiction.

You can choose not to pay the legacy fine, but if you die and respawn in that jurisdiction, it will appear on the respawn screen. The penalty for crime is thus a matter of player choice:

- either pay the legacy fine (after a minimum of 7 days, or more depending on how your bounty transforms and increases)
- avoid dying in the jurisdiction in question (this creates a new type of gameplay: I can't go to that system, I'm wanted there)

PS: this nice graphic may also help: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=141640&page=32&p=2171744&viewfull=1#post2171744

The short, short version:

"If you can't do the time, don't do the crime."

In this case, the time is 7 days + a big bill when you die.

Thank you for the clarification, I appreciate.

Now - all we need is to make the fine persist over a clear save and the gold sellers will weep rivers of tears - or have to buy more game accounts (which funds the future of the game).

Looks to me like the role of BH got a bit more "dangerous"

So now if I clip another hunter or a rozzer, I get a bounty I can't clear. Guess that means jump to another system to hunt.

Ah well, check that fire guys.

Gold Sellers? you mean Credit Sellers or?

Never seen a website for Elite that sell credits but i think they have Forum for that.

Hope they fix the bug where NPC's start shooting you and they never show wanted, so when you fire back you become wanted. Happened 3 times yesterday while doing assassination missions. This could put a damper on BH wings (one guy gets wanted and he can't BH in that system with the others for 7 days).

Remind me again why this change is needed?

It's a mechanism to cap CMDR bounties, and make the offending CMDR monetarily responsable for his infractions.
So while the bounties are capped, the legacy fines are not.

they are gonna need some new incentives for the none i pewpew noobs crime categories with this :/, or at least make it so that certain requirements for ranks etc can be met in other ways.

Yes. This sucks. Especially because the 'rules' for these little planetary games are obscure and stupid. Why do I want to drive halfway across a rock to find friendly drones? Why do I have a 38k credit bounty in 78 Ursae Majoris for 7 days and now it will seem like a million years before I can even START the grind for an Alioth permit. All for hacking, destroying and looting a bunch of harvesters? This is an incredibly uncool thing to do to an ED noob like me. I think we have enough problems without 'getting grounded' Dad. If we didn't kill a system authority vessel this is B.S.

Hmm someone uses Firefox mobile xD

Hurray for Necromancerings ^^

<----- has 700k fine wont pay it. Lets see if i.ll ever die in Aganippe xD

I think player bounties should be issued by the major powers, and expand through ALL of their territory. no "Hah! I killed a player, I'll just go one system over and it never happened!" but rather "I killed a player in fed space, and now every station owned by a federal aligned faction won't let me dock".
